Changes to COVID-19 Health Plan Benefits

HMAA would like to advise you of some important changes to your health plan benefits. The Summary of Material Modifications (SMM) linked below outline changes that will be made due to the Public Health Emergency for COVID-19 ending on May 11, 2023. HMAA is also sending health plan administrators a copy by regular mail. We kindly ask that you share this information with your family members enrolled with HMAA.

Please review the SMM carefully and keep the summary with your plan documents for future reference.

Changes effective May 12, 2023 to HMAA’s COVID-19 health plan benefits are as follows.

  • Medically necessary diagnostic testing approved under applicable law or developed, authorized, and deemed appropriate by the Department of Health and Human Services will be covered based on regular plan benefits.

  • Tests which are not FDA-approved, and at-home over-the-counter (OTC) COVID tests, will no longer be covered.

  • Medically necessary treatment will be covered based on regular plan benefits.

  • Preventive services such as vaccines recommended by the USPSTF or CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices will be covered at 100% when rendered by in-network participating providers.
