Time for School
Parents/caregivers of children with special needs can join us for an informal chit chat with Parent Mentors about “How do I decide when my child will go to school?”

Bring your hopes, fears, doubts, questions and dreams to share with other parents.

TRY IT - Duchenne MD: Building Connections through Heroes Circle (9 yrs+)
Thursday, December 9
5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
Participants will meet peers, try some martial arts, and explore social activities including LEGO. Each participant will have their own space to maintain physical distance.

Sensei Liam from Heroes Circle will instruct participants through traditional martial arts moves and teach us how to use breath breaks and power breathing.
Keeping Runners Safe (Arabic)
Tuesday, December 14
11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Foundational Family Services is excited to partner with the Muslim Resource Centre for Social Support and Inclusion (MRCSSI) to present "Keeping Runners Safe – Safety and Autism" in Arabic.

This virtual, one-hour presentation is designed for parents and caregivers of children who engage in behaviours that may put their safety at risk. Parents will learn to identify and prepare for those risks and make a plan.
Toilet Training 101
Tuesday, December 21
11:00 - 12:00 p.m.
Join us to better understand the many parts of toilet training and for help deciding if your child is ready for this step. The presenter will discuss common toileting challenges and offer practical solutions. As a group, participants will have a chance to ask their own questions as well.

  • January 4, 2022 - Taxes and Financial Planning
  • March 1, 2022 - Navigating the Transition to Adult Services
  • May 3, 2022 - Transition Planning Throughout your Child's School Years
Parents Partnering with Educators - Transition to Elementary School
This is a two-part workshop: Thursdays; February 3 & 10, 2022.
This virtual workshop is designed for parents whose children with special needs or disabilities will be starting school for the first time in September 2022.

Parents will explore:
  • Introducing your child to the school and staff
  • Communicating with your school team
  • The kindergarten day
  • Roles and supports within Special Education
  • Positive advocacy and troubleshooting
Participate in the Fit & Function Study
Are you a parent or caregiver of a child with a developmental delay between the ages of 4-6 years old who is attending school in-person?
