On Wednesday night, the Howard County Council unanimously passed D1's newest bill: CB26-2022! Read below to learn more about the bill and what D1's been doing in the past couple weeks!

CB26-2022 gives the school system more options for pre-K placement. Kirwan Blueprint requirements coming soon will mandate universal pre-K. To help prevent more overcrowded schools, we wanted to give the Board of Education and other public agencies more options for school space. That's why we were proud that all eight members of the Board of Education agreed to support this legislation!

We're knee-deep in budget season at the Council! Below are some important dates for when you can hear more about projects in budget work sessions or testify in support of your priorities at public hearings. To sign up to testify, click here!


Monday, May 9th at 7 PM -- Operating Budget Public Hearing


Wednesday, May 11th at 9:30 AM -- Operating Budget Work Session


Thursday, May 12th at 9:30 AM -- Budget Public Hearing (about anything in either budget)


Friday, May 13th at 9:30 AM -- Operating Budget Work Session


Monday, May 16th at 7 PM -- Legislative Public Hearing on all legislation (including budget, fee schedules, and more)

Battle of the Books

This year, elementary schoolers met back at person and at Merriweather Post Pavilion for the very first time to battle, dance, and have fun celebrating a love for learning. To the left, you can see some very excited Bees from Elkridge Elementary!


Thanks to our incredible librarians for letting Liz be a judge for the Team Poster contest that's always a highlight! Take a look below at some of the best from schools like Hollifield Station, Veterans, and St. John's Lane Elementary!

Liz had fun serving Howard County's very own Jailbreak Brewing Company to tons of happy and thirsty festival-goers at the Ellicott City Partnership's SpringFest down in old Ellicott City!
