Interested in Hosting SCY Championships in 2023?
Our Pacific Masters Administrative Handbook itemizes the guidelines for selecting/recruiting Championship hosts in section 102.3.B(2).D. Pacific Masters is supposed to review all bids for Championships in our August meeting. In the past few years (even pre-pandemic), we have had to actively recruit hosts for our SCY and LCM meets, sometimes in an uncomfortably close time frame.
Pacific Masters now has a club that has expressed interest in hosting our 2023 Short Course Yards Championships in mid-April 2023. We would like to open the bidding early and have a deadline of June 1 instead of August 1, so we can respond to this club in a timely manner.
If your club is interested in hosting the Short Course Yards Championships for spring of 2023, please submit your request by using our Event Hosting Application Forms for pool meets no later than May 31, 2022.

Help Pacific Masters Grow
Win a Pacific Masters Towel!
Swimming is one of the best exercises we can do for ourselves. Since word of mouth is the best advertising, tell everyone you know about Pacific Masters Swimming.
If you bring a friend to join your club and Pacific Masters, you can enter a monthly drawing for a Sports 20 in. X 36 in. microfiber towel. The towel will have the Pacific Masters logo on it and will tell other swimmers that you helped grow Masters Swimming.
Just get a new member, or bring back a swimmer who has not been a PacMasters swimmer in the past four years (2018-2021), to join Pacific Masters. Then enter their name, your name, and the club name at New Member Towel Drawing.
There will be a drawing for towels on the last day of the month, from April through October. If you bring in a new swimmer from March 1st, 2022 to the end of October, 2022, you are eligible for the drawing.
Good luck and thank you for spreading the word about the benefits of swimming, while helping to grow Pacific Masters!

2022 USMS National Championships San Antonio Report
A post mortem of the recent USMS National Championships in San Antonio would show a superbly run meet in one of the finest aquatic complexes in the country (pictured left, photo credit: Rich Burns). A visit to USMS.org provides a wealth of information about the meet. While USMS has in the past provided live feeds of all races, this year they’ve made it especially easy to view them. If you weren’t able to attend but are curious to see how you might have fared, use this link to go to the SwimPhone results summary. Find your events and age group and pick a swimmer in what would have been your heat based on your entry time. Scroll down and you’ll find links to all of the videos of that race.

Summer Movie Diving Scenes
With summer coming up, so are the movie blockbusters. While there are plenty of aquatic scenes featuring swimmers, there are also famous scenes involving a close relative of the swimmer, the diver. Here's a look at a couple of fun summer movie diving scenes:
One famous movie scene from the 2016 movie, Mechanic: Resurrection, involves actor Jason Statham diving off a high cliff. What people might not know is that Statham, who is currently filming the summer movie Meg 2, was a competitive diver who represented England at the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland, New Zealand. For the Mechanic: Resurrection scene, instead of using a stunt double, he just applied his experience as a diver to do the stunt himself.
Another famous diving scene, this time courtesy of comedian and actor Rodney Dangerfield, features a fictional dive called the Triple Lindy. In the summer hit, Back to School, Dangerfield plays a father and businessman who enrolls in his son's college when he hears his son is struggling. Both father and son are divers. Dangerfield's character, Thornton, was known for performing a unique and challenging dive, the Triple Lindy. In the climax of the movie, with the diving team one man short, Thornton does the Triple Lindy as a walk-on competitor and helps the team win against their rivals.
Here's to more exciting summer movies and diving scenes! 🥂
