Middle school students have almost completed the first quarter of the year! The first quarter ends next Friday, November 13th. Parents will receive information from Mr. Joo next week with instructions on how to access the electronic progress report via the parent portal.
*First trimester report cards for elementary will be provided on December 11.
Middle School and Elementary Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences
As we progress through the academic year, an important and valuable touch point for teachers and parents is Fall conferences. This is a time for teachers to share important information regarding a student's academic progress. This year, all conferences will be conducted virtually via Zoom. Look for more details coming from your child's teacher(s).
Elementary Conferences will be conducted Monday, November 9 through Friday, December 4. Sign ups will be provided by the classroom teacher.
Middle School conferences will be conducted Monday, November 16 through Friday, December 4. Assigned conference times will be provided by the homeroom teacher.
Mark Your Calendars
Thursday, November 19 and Friday, November 20 will be half days for all students.
To provide the necessary time for Fall parent-teacher conferences, 11/19 and 11/20 will be half days with the following dismissal times:
Transitional Kindergarten: 11:55am Elementary School Grades K-3: 12:00pm
Elementary School Grades 4-5: 12:30pm
Middle School Grades: 12:30pm

Picture Day for all MCS students (grades TK-8th grade) will be held on Thursday, November 12th.
All Remote Learners will have their picture day on January 6, 2021.

STUDENTS MUST FOLLOW FREE DRESS GUIDELINES.
Picture Day Non-Uniform Dress Guidelines:
Students are encouraged to wear a nice outfit for school pictures
All students are to have a neat, clean and modest appearance at all times, including free dress days
Girls' shorts or skirts must be no shorter than 3 inches above the knee
If leggings are worn, tops must extend past the fingertips
Tank tops must have width of three fingers
Jeans are acceptable on free dress days
Students are not to wear: torn clothes, pajamas, sweats or yoga pants, excessively tight-fitting clothes, spaghetti straps, tops that expose the midriff, clothing with cut-outs, or costume-type clothing
If there is any question that an item is inappropriate for dress, it should not be worn. Students will be required to change if clothing is not appropriate.
Red, White and Blue Dress Day for Veterans Day on Wednesday, Nov. 11
Students may wear red, white, and blue apparel on Wednesday, Nov. 11, to celebrate Veterans Day. This day requires respectful attire - no political slogans, no colored hair, or body paint. MCS Uniform is also appropriate. All clothing must meet the Themed Dress Day Guidelines as noted in the Student Parent Handbook.
Lost & Found
Thank you for labelling all your child's belongings - outerwear, backpacks, gym bags, lunches boxes and water bottles. Of particular importance is all MCS clothing items. If it is lost and labelled, we are able to make sure it gets back to your child. We are including a link to a useful label product that you can use for this purpose. Click Here.
Lunch Cart Drop Off
If you need to drop a lunch off to your student, there is a cart in the front entrance foyer. It must be clearly labelled with the student's name and grade/class. No matter what time your child has lunch recess, the daily drop off deadline for this is 11:30. At that time, the cart will be taken to the playground for the start of the lunch period.

Elementary Chapel
Our students are learning to take ownership for keeping good relationships and living together as a school family. Mrs. Drevlow and Mrs. Celek modelled a relationship tool called the Lions Pride Path. Students learned that a pride is a family of lions. When someone has broken a relationship by unkind words or actions, there are steps to repair it that the students can utilize themselves. The final goal is always to extend forgiveness and restore trust. This Path will be painted on our playground so that students may use the paw print steps on their own.

Hey parents! Your kids worked hard creating beautiful hand made designs for Christmas cards. Christmas card orders are due Wednesday, November 11th. Be sure to get yours turned in on time for on time delivery.

An Important Message About After School Sports
Thank you for patiently awaiting news regarding after school sports for middle school. We have been working with our league, CALOC, awaiting their guidance and decision in regards to when sports will begin. The date continues to be pushed back and though they have announced a potential December start, that is not guaranteed. As a result, rather than continuing to wait on the unknown, we have made the decision not to participate in the Fall season (Boys Flag Football & Girls Basketball). Several other schools have made the same decision lessening the likelihood of a season occurring. Additionally, with the many COVID-19 protocols in place, we felt that it was not safe to proceed with competing against other schools and taking the risk of increased exposure. It is our hope that COVID metrics improve to a point where we can participate in the Winter season (Boys Basketball & Girls Volleyball) which is set to begin in late January.
In lieu of the Fall season, we have developed an afterschool camp experience which will take place between Dec 1- Dec 21. This camp will be cohorted by grade and feature an opportunity to prepare for the Winter season: 3 weeks of boys basketball and 3 weeks of girls volleyball. There is no cost for this camp and, for students who participate, it will meet the requirement for the 9 Sport Athlete Award given at the end of the 8th grade year to all who, across the three middle school years, have participated in 9 sports. More information, including camp sign ups, will be provided to students next week.
Though there is disappointment in not being able to participate in league competition this season, we are very excited for this alternative opportunity and excited to see our field and gym busy again with our athletes. Thank you for your continued support and prayers.

Your child can choose from a House Chicken/white rice bowl or the gluten-free Emperor's Chicken/white rice bowl. During Chapel this week our middle school students heard insight and personal stories surrounding Leadership from our very own Mr. Joo and Mr. Brown! These 2 gentlemen interviewed each other with questions such as "What is leadership?" "When you were young, who impacted you?" "Which Biblical leader do you look up to and why?" High School Information
Pacifica Arts invites MCS families to an evening of Shakespeare in the Park(ing Lot) with three live performances of Twelfth Night is a fast-paced romantic comedy featuring several interwoven plots of romance, mistaken identities, and practical jokes. This hilarious play ultimately shows that in life, shipwrecks do occur, but with God, we can come through them stronger and wiser because of the experience.
