The UC Diabetes Prevention Program is a campus-based small-group, one year healthy lifestyle program that uses a scientifically based approach developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to help you make important lifestyle changes. Trained lifestyle coaches lead one-hour sessions in which you’ll learn healthy habits that stick, while significantly reducing your chance of developing type 2 diabetes.
If you think you could be at risk of prediabetes or type 2 diabetes, register to attend an information session or contact Cori Evans at corievans@berkeley.edu for more information. uhs.berkeley.edu/dpp

Recipe of the Month:
Do you want an easy way to add a kick of flavor, color, and texture to a variety of dishes? Try making these super easy quick pickled onions! Use them on anything that could use a tangy punch - sandwiches, tacos, salad, eggs, stir fry, avocado toast, soup, and more! You can even use the pickling juice anywhere you’d add a splash or vinegar or citrus juice, such as a vinaigrette. Store them in a glass container, such as a repurposed old jar.

Recipes for Disaster Preparedness
Fri, Oct. 16, 12:10-1pm
Instructor: Kim Guess, RD
In the event of an earthquake, wildfire, or pandemic, our food options become more limited. You may have to use whatever foods you have on hand and prepare them without power and/or running water. However, being prepared doesn’t have to be complicated. This workshop will help prepare you with food safety knowledge, a sample grocery list of smart staples to stock, and a few simple recipes.

Group Cook-Alongs
Are you looking for a fun way to connect with your colleagues? We offer a 1-hour virtual "cook-along" for work units and staff organizations by request. The format will be similar to the Kitchen Staples Cook-Along, but can be customized to your group's needs. Check with your work unit/department or staff organization to find out if there is enough interest (minimum 10 people). If yes, have one contact person complete the request form. You can request the time of day that works best for your group. We will do our best to accommodate your requests.

Stress Management
“Your best is enough, and accept the things you can’t change.”
Stress is a feeling we all experience due to challenges that might come from sources such as relationships, work, finances, or planning for the future. Learning to manage your stress can boost your well-being, and lead to a happier, healthier life. The first step is to identify the triggers: what makes you irritable, angry, or worried? Take time to breathe. Then think, what helps you relax? Maybe it’s taking a walk outside, spending time in nature, listening to your favorite music, reading a book, journaling, or taking a relaxing bath. Healthy coping mechanisms can help relieve pressure and boost your resilience.
