Dear Talmud Torah K-6 Families,

Shanah Tovah! We are very excited for the beginning of our in-person school year this Sunday, September 12 at 9:00 AM.

We have many important pieces of information to share with you in this email. We appreciate your reading everything carefully. Protecting us all is a shared responsibility. We appreciate your patience as we all get used to our new procedures.

  • If you have not yet done so, please carefully review our Parent Agreement with current Covid health and safety guidelines.
  • After reading, please sign the last page and email a scanned or photo copy to jenniferc@bnaiisraelcong.org before your child(ren)'s first day of class. The attached copy is fillable and can accept a digital signature.

  • Everyone who enters the building must wear a mask. Hand sanitizer is available in every classroom. If your child has any symptoms of illness, has been exposed to COVID, or is currently quarantining as a close contact at their secular school, please keep them at home and follow the steps listed in the Parent Agreement.

  • Click here for the Sunday class lists. 3rd-6th Grade Midweek class information will be sent separately.

  • You can find our calendar here.
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures:

  • Procedures for Everyone:
  • All K-6 students must be escorted to and from the front of the building by an adult. For safety reasons, students may not walk through the parking lot without an adult.
  • Please maintain appropriate distances and do not block the entrances to the building.
  • Parents are not permitted to enter the building with their children during Talmud Torah due to health protocols..
  • If your child has any symptoms of illness, has been exposed to COVID, or is currently quarantining as a close contact at their secular school, please keep them at home and notify Moshe.
  • We appreciate your patience as we all get used to our new procedures.

  • K-2nd graders will be entering and exiting through the doors of Teitel Atrium (Hayman Chapel doors at the middle of the building).
  • Please give your child a sheet of paper with their grade and teacher's name written on it in marker. This will help streamline our dropoff process.
  • Dropoff: Parents should walk their child to the entrance. Teachers and madrichim will meet and lead students to class.
  • Pickup: At pickup time (11:00 AM for K-1 not enrolled in Chug, 12:15 PM for K-1 enrolled in Chug and all 2nd graders), parents should wait outside and students will be brought out as parents arrive.

  • 3-6th grade will enter and exit on their own through the Abrutyn Atrium (Lenkin Education Wing entrance, where the security desk is) on Sundays and Tuesdays. Madrichim will monitor students as they enter and leave the building, guiding them along the route to their classroom. Teachers will meet students in classrooms. Students will leave through the same entrance.
  • Parents must meet their children in front of the building and not in the parking lot. Pickup time is 12:15 PM.

  • Late Arrivals and Early Pickups
  • If your child is arriving late (when there are no staff members at the entrances) or must be picked up early, you must call the Talmud Torah Office at 301-816-5576. A staff member will come out to bring in late arrivals or will have one of our madrichim bring out children who are being picked up early.
Snacks and Water

  • All water fountains are closed. Please send your child with a labeled water bottle with water in it.
  • Snacks: Students will be given snacks outdoors. In case of inclement weather, students will have snacks in larger spaces throughout the building, such as the Goodman Assembly Hall or Fanaroff Auditorium.
  • Our classrooms are nut free, and we are an "allergy aware" school. Please do not send in any outside food unless you have discussed it with the Education Director in advance. If your child has food allergies, please send us an updated copy of their Allergy Action Plan.

We are very sad to announce that Leydi Solano is moving on and leaving our staff following Yom Kippur. It is sad for all of us since we will miss her, but we are happy for Leydi as she is leaving in order to complete her final coursework for her degree. Feel free to send her your goodbye messages and thanks.
Please contact me with any questions.

L'shanah Tovah,
Moshe Ben-Lev
Education Director
