Dear Residents –
I was saddened to wake up on Saturday morning to the news of a fire in Spring Valley that tragically killed five people, including two children. Although the exact cause of the fire is still unknown, from early reports, it appears to have been an electrical fire. With that in mind, when having electrical or other work done in your home, always check that the contractor is licensed by Rockland County. You can check at the County website or call them at (845) 364-3901.
It is also a good time to check that the address number on the exterior of your home is legible and visible from the road fronting the property. Every minute matters when responding to an emergency, so please do your part to make it easier for the first responders to find your property in the event of an emergency.
Now, onto less serious things. This past weekend was a busy one in Orangetown. On Friday night, a crowd gathered at O’Grady’s Castle to support Pearl River High School’s Project Graduation and, on Saturday night, at the Saloon to support Tappan Zee High School’s Project Graduation. Then, on Sunday afternoon, Orangetown rocked the house at the Penguin Plunge at Nyack’s Memorial Park. With over 400 taking the plunge, including students from all of the Orangetown high schools, and approximately 1,000 cheering them on, it was a great day with much needed funds raised for families with seriously ill children. All great causes for sure!
But it wasn’t over yet. On Sunday evening, the Tappan Zee Boys basketball team beat Somers in the Section 1 Class A final, and on Wednesday went on to beat Horseheads in the Class A sub-regional contest. They are now advancing to the state regionals against Goshen Central at Mount Saint Mary College. The game is on Saturday, March 11th at 12:00 pm and the winner will go on to the Class A State semifinals. Go Dutchmen!
On a final note, do not forget to set your clock ahead one hour ahead before going to bed on Saturday night, as the time will officially change at 2:00 am on Sunday morning.
Have a great weekend and stay safe, as mother nature is misbehaving again with snow and rain expected tonight and into tomorrow morning.
Regards,
