Vote Alachua Update
Spring 2022
From the Supervisor

Our office is working hard to prepare for the rapidly approaching August primary. To ensure you are completely prepared to participate in the Primary and General elections, you will need to stay up to date about redistricting and reprecincting.

Redistricting takes place every ten years after the completion of the US Census. Each state's legislature redraws its congressional and state districts to account for changes in the state's demographics. Counties and municipalities utilize this new data to redraw their districts as well. That means that every ten years, your representatives at the congressional, state and local levels may change.

Once redistricting is completed, our office conducts reprecincting, which involves using the new district maps and census data to determine what changes we need to make to our precincts. We have now completed the reprecincting process.

We have worked hard to make changes for limited reasons. Changes occurred only when Florida’s new legislative or senate lines demanded it, or when moving precinct lines allowed us to reduce the need for multiple ballot styles within that precinct. Additionally, several reliable polling places are no longer available to us. As a result, you may see some changes this election season.

We will be sending voters new voter information cards before the Primary Election and will have up to date information regarding voters' assigned precincts and elected officials on our website, VoteAlachua.gov. We are available during our normal business hours for a visit, and as always, please do not hesitate to reach out to me by email at kbarton@alachuacounty.us or by phone at 352-374-5252.

Respectfully,
Kim A. Barton
Supervisor of Elections

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello!
We Have a Scholarship Nominee!
Many phenomenal students applied to serve as Alachua County's nominee for the Florida Supervisors of Elections Scholarship. Alachua County has incredibly talented students, so it was unfortunate that we could only choose one nominee.

We decided on our nominee and submitted the nominee's application materials to the statewide committee.

Let's hope Alachua County can celebrate another winner!
