Notes of Joy - Week of August 15
This Week's Gospel: John 6:51-58
Wisdom prepares a feast, sets her table, and invites all to come and eat her bread and drink her wine. The first chapter of John’s gospel owes much to the biblical tradition that imagined Wisdom as existing before anything was created and having a role in the work of creation. Christ, the wisdom of God (1 Cor. 1:24), today invites us to eat his flesh and drink his blood. This must have been off-putting to his listeners. Eat flesh? Drink blood? And yet, here we find a profoundly grace-filled invitation—abide in me—and a promise: through this meal I abide in you. We are invited to not only join Jesus at the table, but to be at home in the love of God, knowing that Christ makes his home in our hearts and lives too.

Saturday Morning Work Group - This week
We'll have Saturday Morning Work Group this weekend, Saturday, August 14, and it's open to all! We may wear masks depending on the task and proximities. No breakfast but the coffee will be on. We'll start at 9:00am and go no later than 11:30. Nancy W, Jim and Nancy H. will be working on the Sound Room in an attempt to corral and organize, and will likely take down the bell tables in the Sanctuary and store the items. There will be furnace filters and maybe some light bulbs to change.
Joy of Reading Book Club
The next meeting will be August 16th at 6:30 PM.   Lois Lester will be hosting and providing dinner.  Appetizers and wine welcomed.   The book is The Downstairs Girl by Stacey Lee.

The book for September is West with Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge.  The meeting will be September 20th.

We welcome new members!  If you have been curious about what goes on at Book Club, please join us!   We are happy to have you even if you haven’t had a chance to read the book.   We all need a little social time.
