Brandywine Creek Water Trail Feasibility Study

The Brandywine Creek Water Trail Feasibility Study is now complete and is available for viewing and download here. This report concludes an 18-month study with our partners at the Chester County Planning Commission and includes valuable input from an active Study Advisory Committee and members of the public via an online survey and several public meetings. The study was graciously funded by the William Penn Foundation with matching funds provided by the Chester County Planning Commission through the provision of staff resources.

The study recognizes the Brandywine Creek as a valuable natural and recreational resource in the Brandywine Creek Greenway and provides a path forward for:
  • managing access to the Brandywine Creek
  • increasing safety awareness among users
  • protecting the property rights of private landowners along the creek
  • promoting the long-term stewardship of the resource, and
  • educating users on the cultural and historical importance of the Brandywine.

The Brandywine Conservancy has received funds from the William Penn Foundation to begin implementation of several of the key recommendations identified in the report over the next two years. Improvements include upgrades to to existing water access points, and creating a website to promote information about the trail including a trail map, important safety information, and good stewardship practices.
