Opening Call and Response
  • Jesus rides into Jerusalem.
  • Hosanna!
  • Branches are waved, people shout!
  • Hosanna!
  • Hopes and dreams are running along with the parade!
  • Hosanna!
  • Shout and sing for joy! The Lord comes!
  • Hosanna in the highest!
  • Come, now is the time of dancing and joy!
  • Hosanna in the highest!
  • Now is the time of victory, for the Lord comes into our lives!
  • Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord. AMEN.

Gathering & Prelude Duet #279: "Mantos y palmas;" Tune: Hosanna; Words and music: One License #A-727358
  • Click here to view the sheet music.
  • Words:
  • 1. Filled with excitement, all the happy throng spread cloaks and branches on the city streets. There in the distance they begin to see, riding on a donkey comes the Son of God.
  • Refrain: From every corner a thousand voices sing praises to him who comes in the name of God. With one great shout of acclamation loud triumphant song breaks forth: “Hosanna! Hosanna to the King! Hosanna! Hosanna to the King!”
  • 2. As in that entrance to Jerusalem, we’ll sing hosannas to the Christ, our King, to the living Savior who still calls today, asking us to follow him with love and faith. Refrain

Greeting & Announcements

Call to Worship
  • The journey has been long and sometimes very difficult.
  • During this Lenten journey we have seen miracles and mysteries.
  • Now the Lord comes to us in victory.
  • Jesus rides into Jerusalem and into our hearts.
  • Blessed is the One who comes in the Lord’s Name!
  • Hosanna in the highest! AMEN.

Opening Prayer
With great joy we welcome you, Lord Jesus! The journey has been long and we have longed to enter the Holy City. You come into our hearts and our lives, humbly, patiently, encouraging us to learn and grow, to embark on journeys of hope and healing. Open our hearts today to hear your words, as we sing praise to you. Hosanna! Blessed is the One who comes in the Lord’s Name. AMEN.

Opening Hymn #278: "Hosanna, Loud Hosanna;" Tune: Ellacombe; Words and music: Public Domain
  1. Hosanna, loud hosanna, the little children sang; through pillared court and temple the lovely anthem rang. To Jesus, who had blessed them close folded to his breast, the children sang their praises, the simplest and the best.
  2. From Olivet they followed mid an exultant crowd, the victor palm branch waving, and chanting clear and loud. The Lord of earth and heaven rode on in lowly state, nor scorned that little children should on his bidding wait.
  3. "Hosanna in the highest!" that ancient song we sing, for Christ is our Redeemer, the Lord of heaven our King. O may we ever praise him with heart and life and voice, and in his blissful presence eternally rejoice!

Sermon Series: "Fame"

Sermon: "How quick the winds change"

Sermon Hymn #296, St. 1-3: "Sing, My Tongue, the Glorious Battle;" Tune: Picardy; Words and music: Public Domain
  1. Sing, my tongue, the glorious battle, sing the ending of the fray; now above the cross, the trophy, sound the loud triumphant lay: tell how Christ, the world's Redeemer, as a victim won the day.
  2. Tell how, when at length the fullness of th' appointed time was come, Christ, the Word, was born of woman, left for us his heavenly home; showed us human life made perfect, shone as light amid the gloom.
  3. Thus, with thirty years accomplished, went he forth from Nazareth, destined, dedicated, willing, wrought his work, and met his death. Like a lamb he humbly yielded on the cross his dying breath.

Prayer of Confession
Lord, we confess that when we started this journey, it seemed like a fun idea. Walk the road with Jesus, we thought. But the journey has had many difficult times when our spirits have been challenged and tried. We have come to the time of entrance into the Holy City. We want everything to be wonderful; for you to conquer all those things that threaten us and our peace. We want you to do what we direct. Forgive us, Lord, when we place our fears and ignorance before your love. Help us to look again at the many ways in which we can be a blessing to others, through serving them and you. Release us from our panic and mistrust and help us to place our lives solely in your hands. AMEN.

Words of Assurance
Rejoice, the Lord has come into your presence. You are the beloved ones of God. Know that God walks with you through this parade and time of celebration and in all the times ahead. AMEN.

Love Feast
  • Prayer
  • Duet: "My Song is Love Unknown;" Tune: Love Unknown; Words and music: Public domain
  • Words:
  1. My song is love unknown, my Savior’s love to me, love to the loveless shown that they might lovely be. O who am I that for my sake my Lord should take frail flesh, and die?
  2. He came from his blest throne salvation to bestow, but men cared not, and none the longed-for Christ would know. But O my friend, my friend indeed, who at my need his life did spend.
  3. Sometimes they strew his way, and his strong praises sing, resounding all the day hosannas to their King. Then “Crucify!” is all their breath, and for his death they thirst and cry.

Closing Hymn: "There in God’s Garden Stands the Tree of Wisdom;" Tune: Shade's Mountain
Words and music: One License #A-727358
  1. There in God's garden stands the Tree of Wisdom, whose leaves hold forth the healing of the nations: Tree of all knowledge, Tree of all compassion, Tree of all beauty.
  2. Its name is Jesus, name that says, "Our Savior!" There on its branches see the scars of suff'ring; see where the tendrils of our human selfhood feed on its life-blood.
  3. Thorns not his own are tangled in its foliage; our greed has starved it; our despite has choked it. Yet, look! it lives! its grief has not destroyed it nor fire consumed it.
  4. See how its branches reach to us in welcome; hear what the Voice says, "Come to me, ye weary! Give me your sickness, give me all your sorrow, I will give blessing."
  5. This is my ending; this my resurrection; into your hands, Lord, I commit my spirit. This have I searched for; now I can possess it. This ground is holy!
  6. All heav'n is singing, "Thanks to Christ whose Passion offers in mercy healing, strength and pardon. People and nations, take it, take it freely!" Amen! My Master!
