Support SAVES Service Week

As part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, SAVES (Sexual Assault and Violence Education by Students) is hosting a service week to raise money, provide education, and share resources on domestic violence prevention.

SAVES is hosting two percentage nights, where all the funds raised will go directly to the Women's Resource Center of New River Valley. They are also hosting an After Care Package Making session to create care packages for sexual assault survivors after examinations in the Emergency Room. These kits will be given to forensic nursing staff at local hospitals so they may provide more comfort and care to survivors.

VT Women Connect Update

Virginia Tech supports the mission of The Virginia Network through VT Women Connect (VTWC). VTWC is an informal network that promotes, develops and supports Virginia Tech’s professional women by providing a forum to forge relationships, develop supportive networks, and share ideas and information. SVPC Book Club

As part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, SVPC is hosting a book club to read and discuss No Visible Bruises by Rachel Louise Snyder. Through the stories of victims, perpetrators, law enforcement and reform movements from across the country, Snyder explores the real roots of private violence, its far-reaching consequences for society and what it will take to truly address it.

Join us on October 28th to discuss this insightful and impactful book. Registration is required and the FIRST 15 registrants will receive the book for free.

Methodologies in Caribbean Research on Gender and Sexuality

An innovative, timely overview and examination of feminist research practice across the Caribbean, the recently published Methodologies in Caribbean Research on Gender and Sexuality honors and brings together the practices and perspectives of multiple Caribbean-based and diasporic researchers and activists.

Join us on October 25th, for a conversation and breakfast meet and greet with the book's co-editor, Her Excellency Dr. Halimah DeShong. The conversation will be moderated by Nana Brantuo.

Empowering Survivors at Work

In recognition of national Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Hokie Wellness, the Office for Equity and Accessibility, and the Women’s Center are teaming up to bring important conversations to campus. Faculty and staff are invited to join us Monday, October 25, at 12 p.m., in the Newman Library Multipurpose Room for “Creating Supportive Communities: Empowering Survivors at Work." This is an opportunity to discuss how we can all play a role in this important effort.
