Project Spotlight
Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Audit Assistance
As one of our clients implemented new processes and increased production levels at their facility, they requested that Hygieneering perform calculations based on current emissions and production to ensure that they were in compliance with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) guidelines for emissions.

While performing these calculations, the IEPA requested additional information based on processes that occurred in the past at the facility, and data back to 2006 for their review. Hygieneering’s scope of work included the following items:

  • Walk the facility and inventory all emissions generating units, with dates of initial construction and operation.
  • Using data provided by the client, perform emissions calculations using the AP-42 methodology annually for actual and potential emissions.
  • Perform mass balance calculations for emissions on processes with estimated usage data.
  • Using production data for years where usage data was not available, estimate emissions for years requested by the IEPA to show compliance.

Hygieneering has been in contact with the IEPA and having meetings with them and the client regarding the status of this information, and assisting the client with any potential paperwork and improvements that may come from the IEPA’s findings based upon the data provided.

US OSHA requires annual training for general site workers engaged in hazardous waste operations (29 CFR 1910.(e)(9) as well as emergency response employees (29 CFR 1910.120(q)(8).
