March 26, 2021

Dear Parents,

Now that we have returned from Spring Break, the roller coaster of last quarter has begun! It has been a very productive week of planning across all grade levels with many of our spring special events coming together, and I am extremely excited that they will all be taking place. I want to thank our parents for being so patient. I know it has been hard, and at times frustrating, but we hate to share information only to have multiple versions, changes, and additions. We definitely found that out through COVID this year. However, do not fear, all the information you need is coming your way through your grade levels and in the newsletter. Our teachers can hardly contain themselves; they are as excited as I am!

I am thrilled to say that plans are underway for all of the following events:
K-4: Sports Fest and QU Wedding
K-5: Sports Fest, Mother’s Day Tea, and Bridging
G1: Sports Fest and Festival of Nations
G2: Sports Fest and Across Generations
G3: Sports Fest and Read to Write: A Language Arts Celebration
G4: Sports Fest, State Travel Fair, and Gem Mining
G5: Sports Fest, Shrek, Jr., and the Food Truck Challenge
G6: Sports Fest, Spamalot, India Fest, Car Wash, Art Show, and Graduation
This doesn’t even include our Variety Show, School-wide art show, Science Expo, and Read to Lead celebration. To be honest, I’m probably even forgetting something. All of these are either coming to fruition very soon or are in the planning stages.

We are excited that many will even involve parents in some way. We are doing everything we can to continue our commitment to safety and health but acknowledge that our parents are eager and ready to be a part of the fun! We are particularly happy that we will be able to host the 5th grade shows in our own AAC and that our 6th grade show will be a 2 night special event performed on Trinity Prep’s stage for our entire school community.

Just this week, I have enjoyed observing G6 Passion Project presentations, G4 Science Expo presentations, and a huge WOW to our 5th grade Wax Museum participants. What a great week to be at Park Maitland! I was blown away by the quality of work I observed throughout the week. Park Maitland always finds a way to make it work.

Welcome to quarter 4 and let the fun begin!
Happy Friday!

Warmly,
Davina Spillmann

SUPERSTAR TEACHER OF THE WEEK
While I have been a faculty member for 16 years, Park Maitland has been my home away from home for decades! My Park Maitland journey began as a K-4 student and evolved into an alumna, Park Maitland parent, and current faculty member. If that weren’t enough, I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside two of my family members: my twin sister, Miss Darby Ballard (the infamous K-4-2nd grade Drama teacher), and my aunt, Mrs. Nat Garvin (former Dean of Student). Park Maitland truly is my family and I LOVE our AMAZING school!

Over the years, I have been a K-4 aid, K-4-5th grade PE teacher, and an Art teacher for K-4, K-5, 4th, and 5th grade. I guess I specialize in hot, sweaty, and creative messes! I have loved the freedom to teach children how to have fun, to be creative and active, and to become better humans along the way. It is almost impossible to think of a favorite memory, but being part of the faculty while my daughter, Katie, attended Park Maitland was an extra special treat.

When not on campus, I can probably be found one of two places … by a TV cheering on my Baylor Bears while eating Tex-Mex, or underwater scuba diving with sharks!
Thank you to Aimee Norcero for creating these incredible posters honoring our teacher of the week, Darcy Rios. These are displayed around our Park Maitland carpool line.
WELCOME ABOARD
Melissa Rudolph
She will be teaching K-4 and K-5 Science and Social Studies
My name is Melissa Rudolph and I am thrilled to be joining the Park Maitland community! I grew up in Central Florida, received an AS in Early Childhood Education from Seminole State College, and a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Central Florida. I have taught Early Childhood Education for almost 10 years with the past 3 years being specific to Kindergarten. I have a true passion for teaching and it absolutely excites me to provide a fun environment for students to learn and grow! When I am not teaching, I am spending time with my husband, Craig and our two children, Wyatt (4) and Reagan (5 months). I enjoy baking, being outdoors, and watching football (Go Knights!).
Please come join Ms. J, our Park Maitland School Counselor, on Wednesday April 14, as she is already registered to attend this special event.
