Dear Lake Deaton Family & Friends,
It is hard to believe that we are actually coming out of summer. There is always an excitement in the air as we prepare to enter into the Fall months––even while living within a COVID pandemic. We start September this week and before you know it Christmas time will be here!
Even though time seems to fly by, we hope as a community we will be able to focus on several special events/services that will be coming this fall that will help us to connect, grow and serve. I want to share a few with you.
-
World Communion Sunday - On Sunday October 4, 9:30 a.m. we will be having a special World communion Sunday outdoor worship service. You will be able to come in your cars or golf carts and it will be a glorious day of celebration and praise.
-
Laity Sunday – On October 18 we will be celebrating Laity Sunday and will have a special service that will include a couple of powerful testimonies from leaders within our congregation. This is a service you will not want to miss.
-
Celebrate Recovery – In November we will be launching a new worship service/ministry called Celebrate Recovery. Celebrate Recovery is a place where people can come together and work through their habits, hurts and hang-ups in a safe judgement free environment.
These are just a few of the things happening we also are having our “We Miss You” events on Wednesdays. We are working with Wildwood UMC to host a drive through dinner church on Wednesday evenings. We will be having a special service of blessing of your pets, and we are launching a respite care program for people with memory difficulties called Sonrise!
We will be letting you know about all of these upcoming events in much more detail so keep on the lookout for all of the wonderful ways in which you can connect and serve this fall.
In Christ’s love,

Couch Talk
Each week the pastors and sometimes staff members record a segment called couch talk. Couch talk is full of useful announcements for the coming weeks. We hope you take a moment each week to watch.

Volunteer Highlight
Meet Diana Richards
Diana is a very friendly person! You may know this as she has been greeting at the 9am service for three years. Her friendliness is also carried through in the Ladies group - Bloom.
Diana serves on the Finance Committee and is the Chairperson for SPRT (Staff Parrish Relations Team). She says it gives her pleasure to serve our church, wherever she is needed. She hopes the nursery will open again soon so she can also help there.
She loves to read and is active in a book club. Other activities include tennis, three times a week and she also enjoys playing bridge online.

Coffee with the Pastors
Are you new to Lake Deaton UMC or have you been coming a while but want to know more about becoming a member? If the answer is yes then now is the time to sign up for Coffee with the Pastors. This class is an opportunity to meet our pastors, learn more about our church, our mission, vision and values, and to find out all there is to know about being a member at Lake Deaton UMC. At the end of the class, an opportunity will be given for participants to sign up to join the church. You can sign up to come to the class in-person or online. Sign up by clicking here and selecting the day that works best for you! “Sonrise” Respite Program
Progress continues on the planning for the opening of the new “Sonrise” Respite Program at Lake Deaton UMC, and we are beginning to collect supplies and equipment that will be needed for the program. If you would like to donate items or money for the program, please check out our “wish list” at click here. Prayer and Care Ministry
We believe that meeting the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of our church and neighbors is what showing the love of Christ is all about. We have volunteers devoted to the care of persons, including ministries of prayer, meals, and member connection. If you are facing a challenge, have a prayer request, or want to serve as a volunteer, please let us know. In case of a death of a loved one or a hospitalization, let us know so a Care Minister can support you through this time.
For Prayer and Care Ministries needs, please email Denise Herzberg by clicking here.
