NNAHRA Virtual Conference
Post Conference Summary

Conference Attendees: please remember you can go back and watch breakout sessions you missed or need a refresher, the app is still live and providing tons of pre-recorded content.

We all miss you already and we are all ready to see one another in person again.

Highlights from attendees:

"I liked that I could rewind the speech and take better notes and have access to other sessions on demand."

"The energy by the speakers even though it was virtual."

"NNAHRA played the cards they were dealt, and really hit it out of the park! Other conferences can take notes on how to host a virtual conference."

Sam Henny Mentorship Award

Choctaw Nation
Leadership Series
The Sam Henny Mentorship Award was created by the NNAHRA Board of Directors to commemorate the lifelong passion of training and development by Sam Henny over many years of her life.

This year, the NNAHRA Board of Directors selected Choctaw Nation for their leadership series.
The workshops have been designed for various levels of leadership within the organization.
The efforts include 5 levels of development:
  • Supervisor
  • Manager
  • Director/Sr. Director
  • Executive
  • Hi-Performers/Hi-Potential/Successor group.

The workshop objectives align with several components such as a compensatory matrix, performance benchmarks, and scholarly research. Additionally, Choctaw Nation partners with Southeastern Oklahoma State University and offers the “Mahli Chito” collegiate Leadership Development courses each semester.

Congratulations Choctaw Nation!
HR Leader of the Year
Joaquin Blanco, THRP, SPHR
Director of Human Resources
River Rock Casino and Dry Creek Band of Pomo Indians
The HR Leader of the Year Award is presented annually during the national conference, to recognize an HR Leader who has exemplified the strategic role and an outstanding leader within the HR community.

Joaquin consistently demonstrates his leadership and management skills. He has set up a strategic plan for the team to follow and strive for. Not only is he continuously working on the strategic plans, he is still able to juggle the day to day operations with a positive and uplifting attitude.

"To work with him, you would see that he is empathetic, courageous, and kind.  He goes out of his way to connect with the tribal members and to see how he can help them improve their lives.  He is culturally sensitive and is always open and willing to learn the ways of our tribal community.

I believe we are in a much better place due to the having Joaquin as our HR leader!"

Congratulations Mr. Joaquin Blanco!
