Importing a Hazardous Material into the U.S.

Incidents may occur when a hazardous material is shipped to, and brought into, the U.S. by persons who aren’t aware of their responsibilities under the Hazardous Materials Regulations. That is why USDOT/PHMSA requires the importer of a HazMat to provide both the shipper and the forwarding agent with timely, complete, written information on their requirements under the HMR. If you import HazMat into the U.S., make certain you are aware of your responsibilities to provide this information and to whom.
