Attendees do not need to be Girl Scouts to join the program. Participants who are registered Girl Scouts will earn their Becoming Me Patch upon program completion.
The Becoming Me virtual program series is inspired by former First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama’s book
Becoming: Adapted for Young Readers. The program will guide girls to find their own voice through exploring community environmental concerns, maintaining mental health and wellness, and empowering others.
“We are proud to partner with the Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia to present this program that features a great book and encourages young adults to grow more confident in themselves and the ways they can contribute to their community,” said Live Oak Public Libraries Executive Director David Singleton.
Sessions will be held online via Zoom on Tuesdays from 5:00PM - 6:00PM, beginning October 26, 2021 and ending December 7, 2021. (No program will be held during the week of Thanksgiving.) Participants are not required to attend every session, but Girl Scouts who miss weeks may have to complete some activities on their own in order to earn the patch.
"We are excited to partner with Live Oak Public Libraries. Through this program, we are looking forward to elevating and amplifying the voices of our girls as well as empowering them to succeed," stated Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia Program Manager Ambria Berksteiner.
Michelle Obama's Becoming: Adapted for Young Readers is available for checkout through Live Oak Public Libraries. Attendees are encouraged to read the book, but it is not required for participation.
