OSHA Provides Many Resources to Help Develop an Energy Control Program
OSHA’s Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) standard establishes the employer’s responsibility to protect workers from hazardous energy releases on machines and equipment during service and maintenance. The standard gives employers the flexibility to develop an energy control program suited to the needs of their particular workplaces and the types of machines and equipment being maintained or serviced.

OSHA has compiled extensive resources to help employers and workers understand the harmful effects of hazardous energy and methods to control it. OSHA’s Fact Sheet highlights the OSHA Lockout/Tagout standard and outlines some of the most important safety requirements. OSHA’s Control of Hazardous Energy (Lockout/Tagout) webpage offers additional information, through publications, guidelines, an interactive training eTool and much more, that is key to protecting workers during the servicing and maintenance of machinery and equipment.
