NEWS - October 18, 2021
Some very exciting things - potentially - happening later today with Apple's "Unleashed" event in just a few hours. While the potential for new Mac laptops has garnered the lion's share of attention, there are smaller announcements that may accompany the hardware that I find even more exciting.

If the situation warrants, I'll have updates with more details later this week. And not just from Apple....

More news from last week:

AJA Video Systems announced it has taken a proactive equity stake in data analytics software developer Diskover Data and simultaneously launched AJA Diskover Media Edition. The new software lets media and entertainment professionals easily search, find, and analyze media asset data originating from on-premises, remote, and cloud storage – aggregating associated metadata into a unified global index. AJA also updated a variety of other products.

Rotolight announced the next generation of its hugely popular LED lighting products: the Rotolight NEO 3 and AEOS 2. These exciting new products combine the ‘shoot what you see’ benefits of continuous light, with a world-first High-Speed Sync RGBWW flash.

Alex Green, with Content Crowd, published a report focused on the wave of innovation in cloud video applications with a special emphasis on sports. The report is free and available at the link below.

FCP 7 may be gone, but not forgotten. Helge Malmgren just published a tutorial for new editors that still want to use FCP 7. Based in Sweden, Helge is a mostly-retired theoretical philosophist, who dabbles in editing when he gets restless. Recently, he wrote this tutorial on FCP 7.

Last week's webinar - Ask Larry Anything! - was interesting because we only had four questions to discuss. Which meant that I had more time to go into the answers than normal. We covered archiving and LTO technology, color correction in Final Cut, and video compression for social media. It was an interesting session.

No webinars this week, pending Apple's announcements. However, I expect next week's webinar to be very interesting indeed.

I have four tutorials for you this week: The first is how to fix color problems using Final Cut. FCP has amazing color tools for both grading and fixing problems. However, amazing tools are not enough, if you don't know how to use them. Here's an overview of how to use scopes to fix problems.

Recently, I purchased a pair of Yamaha HS5 powered monitor speakers. I like them a lot. Here's my review.

Last week, Wes sent me a question on how to work with proxy media in multicam clips in FCP. So, this week, I wrote a tutorial that discusses exactly that.

I've been a fan of LTO tape technology for a long time. In last week's webinar, I finally got a chance to talk about it - with recommendations on how it works, software to best utilize it and what you need to know before investing in a system.

Well, like many, I'm bringing extra popcorn to Apple's event later today. Looking forward to seeing what Apple announces, and especially if it can improve the lives of us media folks. I look forward to sharing what I learn.

In the meantime, stay safe, stay healthy and edit well.
