Hello Art Lovers,
It has been over 4 weeks since I sent news out to you and it's been a tumultuous time. I returned from the amazing trip to France and Italy where I spent time with Raymond Douillet, Anne Bachelier and Michelle Gagliano.
It was a dream trip.
I returned to a storm brewing in the Gulf. By the 27th the city was bracing for a category 4 storm that wreaked havoc in Louisiana and went on to flood and kill over 5 dozen people in four states. As Ida made her way north, the storm dumped significant rain onto communities across the
Appalachians and Mid-Atlantic.
Today, we just finished putting the sheetrock up in the ceiling in the front windows of the gallery. The back end of the gallery took in water and flooded
in our kitchen. Fortunately the 20 or so padded boxes with no art in them absorbed most of the water falling from the second floor and miraculously no art was damaged. Thankfully all of the AKG family faired well and are safe.
Then our nation recognized the 20th anniversary of 9/11.
New York City, the welcoming destination for immigrants who came and flourished in North America, was attacked. The US is a country of freedom, equality and personal liberty. Our nation was built on these principles… that was attacked on September 11th, 2001.
To quote Marquis de Lafayette,
"Humanity has won its battle. Liberty now has a country."
Thursday, we will open the gallery again. The quarter is beginning to wake up again and soon the heart of our city will be beating as always...
Breathing, taking it in stride.
with love, Angela
