COVID Student Quarantine Update

As we near the middle of the fall season, we want to thank all of our students, families, and staff for the collective efforts to keep everyone safe. We need everyone to keep being vigilant about staying home when sick, wearing face covering, and washing hands.

We continue to follow guidance from King County Public Health, when it comes to determining when students can return to school when they are close contacts, test positive, or have symptoms. Isolating and quarantining students or staff that present symptoms, test positive, or have been close contacts is an important layer of safety to help prevent transmission of COVID-19 within our school.

When provided with a range of options we are using the safest options identified by King County Public Health. We will continue to evaluate the impact on our students and schools and may adopt other options identified by Public Health as conditions evolve. Under Public Health guidance:

  • Unvaccinated students and staff identified as close contacts and have a negative test will quarantine for 14 days from the last date of contact with the person with COVID-19. Students and staff who are vaccinated and do not have symptoms do not need to quarantine.

  • Students and staff who test positive and have no symptoms can return after isolating for 10 days. If students and staff who test positive and do have symptoms must also be symptom free before returning.

  • Students and staff with symptoms, who test positive, and have no close contact are required to isolate for 10 days.

  • Students and staff with symptoms of illness, who test negative and have no close contact, may return AFTER they are cleared by a contact tracer (this may take up to 48 hours). In all cases where students have symptoms, they must be symptom free for at least 24 hours before returning regardless of the length of isolation or quarantine.

  • For families that cannot access free sites or private providers resources, the district will soon begin offering free testing at regional sites.

📢All Volunteers Must Be Vaccinated by October 18th

As of October 19th, only volunteers who are approved and have shown proof of vaccination will be allowed to volunteer in our schools.

Rockwell is a LWSD approved location to verify vaccination status for volunteers who are currently LWSD approved.

To maintain distancing and our regular work schedule, we will have 5-minute appointment slots available for you to stop by with your government issued picture ID (with a date of birth) and proof of vaccination from one of the three acceptable forms of verification:

Join the World's Largest Earthquake Drill
Great Shakeout - October 21st, 2021

When the ground starts to shake, what do you do? If it involves a doorway, a triangle, or running - these are NOT earthquake-safe actions. Register now at ShakeOut.org/register to learn more about Drop, Cover, and Hold On and practice updated earthquake safety actions.

Our school will be participating in this drill this Thursday. Reinforce your child's learning by practicing Drop, Cover, and Hold On at home, too (and in different rooms). In an earthquake, you may only have seconds to protect yourself before strong shaking knocks you down, or something falls on you. Practice earthquake-safe actions on October 21st. Why? Because when adrenaline kicks in, you may not act safely if you haven't practiced the Drop, Cover, Hold On drill before that moment. Don't wait until the shaking to practice earthquake safety with your community!

After you register to join, click HERE for a handout on Recommended Earthquake Safety Actions for Parents.

Invite friends and family to practice their safety too!

Have You Donated to the ABC Fund?

We need help achieving our fundraising goals! If you haven't donated to the Annual Beagle Contribution (ABC) Fund, it's not too late.

We were hoping to raise $25,000 by October 1st. We've fallen short of that goal, with only $18,000 in our ABC fund thus far (barely 70% of our goal). Sadly, only 30% of our families have donated to ABC so far.

We understand that many families have been hit hard by the pandemic and do not have the extra funds to donate right now. If you're one of the lucky families who have not taken a financial hit, please give today, and consider GIVING BIG.

The ABC fund is the PTA's main fundraising source each year, and it's the primary resource for all academic and enrichment grants that we give to teachers and students throughout the year.

CLICK HERE to donate to the ABC fund (it's step #3 in the online welcome packet, after you join the PTA).

Thank you!
Still Looking to Fill PTA Board Positions

Rockwell Families: Your PTA Board is hard at work making sure that we can support the school, our teachers, and all our children's academic opportunities this school year. We still have a few positions on the board that we'd like to fill. If you're telling yourself that you don't have time to join the board because you have a full-time job, or because you are caring for younger children who are not yet in school, I'd like to share some details about the dedicated parent volunteers currently serving on the PTA board.

There are 13 dedicated parents (one of us is also a grandparent!) serving on your PTA board. Most of us have full-time jobs. We're accountant managers, real estate brokers, lawyers, software engineers, executive producers, carnatic music teacher, cancer survivors, retired kindergarten teachers, HVAC designers, and even IAs at Rockwell. Collectively as have 27 children of our own, ranging from one to forty three years old. Some of our kids have disabilities, some have IEPs, and some are in quest. Some of us grew up in Redmond, but most of us moved here from other parts of the world. What we all have in common is a commitment to making Norman Rockwell the strongest school community possible. But we urgently need more volunteers to help us.

Joining the board requires attending our monthly board meeting (taking place through Teams), doing the work assigned to your specific board role, and positions we still have open. If you're interested in joining, or if you have further questions about what the role entails, please email Denice at president@normanrockwellpta.org

VP of Fundraising: This board member oversees the PTA's various fundraising efforts throughout the year, including dine-outs, spirit wear orders, read-a-thons, box tops, and any other programs that help the PTA earn funds for the school community.

Legislative Advocate: This board member keeps the school informed on matters affecting education on the local and state level through occasional Bugle articles and updates on monthly board meetings.

We also have opening for the committee chair positions listed below. These positions are less of a commitment than a full board position, but are also crucial to the PTA's success. If you are interested in learning more about any of these chair positions, please email Sri at volunteering@normanrockwellpta.org

  • 5th grade promotion chair
  • Field day chair
  • Rockwell musical chair
  • School dance party chair
  • STEM night chair
  • Nominating committee chair
  • Virtual dance party committee chair
  • Teacher appreciation week chair
  • Volunteer awards
  • Room parent co-chair
  • Read-a-thon chair
  • Box tops chair
  • Restaurant week / Dine out chair
  • F.A.C.E. (family and community engagement) chair
