Principals' Update - Distance Learning

Distance Learning Transition
Please read this information carefully. Here is a link to our CMS Distance Learning plan. You'll notice we've tried to maintain as much consistency as possible for students and families. Our Monday - Thursday schedule will remain the same, in that students will go to 3 classes per day.
On Mondays and Wednesdays, students will attend periods 1, 3 and 5.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, students will attend periods 2, 4 and 6.

In addition, our Friday schedule will remain the same. All activities on Friday will be asynchronous unless students have been invited to a synchronous session with a staff member.

Please be sure your student is logging in at 8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. for each of their classes Monday - Thursday. During each class period, students should expect to be online for 30-60 minutes.

Important Dates:
Friday, November 20 - No School for Students
Monday, November 23 - Distance Learning Begins
Wednesday, November 25 - No School for Students
Thursday, November 26 - No School: Happy Thanksgiving
Friday, November 27 - No School
Monday, November 30 - Distance Learning Resumes
Covid reporting during Distance Learning
While we move into Distance Learning, our building will continue to ensure the safety for our staff and students. We will still be monitoring our Covid-19 cases. If your child or anyone in your household tests positive for COVID 19 during the Distance Learning time, please report it to our site Covid Coordinator (Rich Larson) so we can keep a record, just as we have been doing during our Hybrid learning model. This will allow us to ensure a safe return for all students and staff prior to returning in January.
Meals During Distance Learning
As our students move to district-wide distance learning, the Child Nutrition Department has changed its distribution method for school meals. Starting on December 4, parents/guardians will be able to pick up meals for their children from the school of their choice.

Select the school and fill out the brief survey using the form, below. You do not have to have a child attending that school for you to choose it; pick whichever school is convenient for you.

No meals will go home with current hybrid learners on November 23 and 24. If you wish to receive meals for your children for that week, you will need to come to the high school East Entrance (Door #13) on November 20 between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. You will receive seven breakfasts and seven lunches for each child. No sign up is required for November 20. (Students that are already distance learning have already signed up for this date.)

Beginning December 4, meals can be picked up at the school you chose between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Pick up day will be the last school day of the week. For December those dates are:

  • December 4
  • December 11
  • December 18
  • December 23

Parents/guardians will need to come inside the first set of doors of the main entrance of the school (Door #42 at CMS) to pick up the meals. Masks and social distancing are required at all locations.

Please note our Food Service staff works very hard to make sure we have an adequate number of meals ready for our students. If we have a significant number of "no shows" it creates additional work as the meal kits have to be disassembled and some food goes to waste. Please make every effort to pick up the meals if you have submitted the commitment form.

You only need to submit a form once; there is not a "week by week" option as this distribution method may only be for December.

Select the school you wish to pick up meals from:

If you need to discontinue picking up meals, please submit this form so that we can take your name off the list.

21-22 New CMS Schedule
While we know the transition to Distance Learning is front and center right now (as it should be), we also want to let you know that we are continuing to plan for the 21-22 school year when 6th grade officially becomes part of CMS. We're excited to announce that we will be using a different schedule, one that allows for much more student choice. After the Thanksgiving break, we will be sharing more details about the new schedule so you understand the changes and know how it will affect your student. Stay tuned!
