Together, we aim to prevent young people from developing an unhealthy relationship with alcohol, cannabis, tobacco, opioids, and other substances.

Ecocycle Planning

Liberating Structures is many things, a database of microstructures, easy-to-follow rules for innovation, and complex science in a simple form. What Liberating Structures can do is more important; they make it easy for any facilitator to create conditions for people to collaborate at the top of their intelligence and creativity.

Port Angeles Healthy Youth Coalition incorporates these structures into their community meetings to create a virtual environment where a coalition can still thrive and enjoy their work. Pausing to reflect on what has been started so far, during the Coalition's May Community Meeting, members used Ecocycle Planning to analyze their current portfolio of activities and identify any obstacles, opportunities for progress, and chances for creative destruction.

The Coalition is taking the month of July off to explore and find "dynamic rearrangement." It's not too late to join the conversation. If you're interested in learning more about the Port Angeles Healthy Youth Coalition, get in touch, or explore www.pahealthyyouth.org.

Port Angeles Community Survey with

Community Prevention and Wellness Initiative

Only 105 residents responded to our first annual Community Prevention and Wellness Initiative Community Survey in December 2021. Unfortunately, this sample is not statistically valid or representative of the population. However, we are still interested in understanding how those that took the survey perceive youth substance use in our community and how these perceptions compared to Washington State averages.

Here is a live link to the Community Survey results viewable on computer desktops or laptops. A downloaded pdf can be found on the home page of www.pahealthyyouth.org

Clallam Resilience: What is Youth Substance Use Prevention?

The Clallam Resilience Project Community Meeting on Tuesday, June 7th, will be with Community Coalition Coordinator Rachel Rachel from Port Angeles Healthy Youth presenting "What is Youth Substance Use, Misuse & Abuse Prevention?"

Before she joined the team at Port Angeles Healthy Youth Coalition, Rachel's work with prevention began in the Peace Corps as a community health educator focused on preventing infectious disease and gender-based violence. After returning to the United States, she focused her work on youth substance use disorder prevention and has had the opportunity to serve three community coalitions across the State of Washington.

Youth substance use is a very serious and challenging topic. People need a sense of hope that their community can make a difference. Together we'll explore what is prevention and what isn't prevention and identify how we are all already having a positive impact on the lives of young people in our communities.

Click here to join this Zoom meeting on Tuesday, June 7th, at 10 am PST.

Meeting ID: 899 2819 4489 Passcode: HOPE
