FLU Season is Upon Us!
Flu season is upon us! Help #fighttheflu
Wear a mask
Wash your hands
Get a yearly flu vaccine

Flu Vaccine Facts:
  • A flu vaccine helps your body build up antibodies against 2-4 recent flu strains.

  • It takes about two weeks for these antibodies to help provide protection against the flu virus. If your exposed to the flu before that two-week window you may get sick.

  • The flu vaccine has been shown in some studies to reduce the severity of illness and hospitalization.

  • After getting the vaccine you may experience: Soreness/redness at the injection site, headache, fever, muscle aches, nausea and fatigue. These symptoms are a response created by your immune system to the vaccine, not flu symptoms.

Where to get a flu vaccine:
• Schedule an appointment with your healthcare provider.
• Call 211 for health and social services information.

Student Expectation - Teacher Absence
When a teacher is absent, students will be expected to complete an asynchronous lesson.

  • Students will be informed of the teacher absence and directed to this lesson via a Schoology Update. Additionally, the teacher may email students or post in a Google Chat with special instructions.
  • Students should expect to submit the classwork by the end of the period. If on campus, students will report to the lunch area during the regular class period.
  • The school will post a sign on the teacher’s door reminding students to report to the lunch area.

At the Movies:

There is a new movie out with a cameo by a CCHS family and features a message we love to share! PRAY: the Story of Fr. Patrick Peyton will be released in theaters next Friday, October 9, 2020. Fr. Peyton, a poor Irish immigrant to America in 1928, with the help of Hollywood celebrities, championed the saying: "The family that prays together, stays together." As well as, "A world at prayer is a world at peace."

Cardinal Sean O'Malley, Archbishop of Boston encourages people to watch this documentary in order to draw closer to Our Lord. You’ll also see own CCHS family Mike and Shara Sweeney and family. If you have any questions or are interested in viewing a live-streaming at home, please contact PIP@cchsdons.com. You can find out more at praythefilm.com

Updated Medication Policy - Health Office
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Health Office has adjusted our current practice of dispensing over-the-counter medications and threshold for sending students home due to illness. Ibuprofen (Advil) and Acetaminophen (Tylenol) will still be available for students to treat common ailments. However, this year, the Health Office will be contacting a parent/guardian by phone for verbal permission to dispense medication every time it is requested by student. This change is out of an abundance of caution, and to help ensure full transparency for the care of your student while they are physically on campus.

At this time, the Health Office is no longer allowed to dispense antacids (TUMs) and antihistamines (Benadryl) per our overseeing physician. If your student will need to take these medications during the school day, please provide a new, unopened package of the medication with an Authorization form completed by the student’s physician.

The Health Office will be following CDC guidelines for sending students home, which may be more frequent than before. If your student has an ongoing medical aliment (such as asthma, migraines, seasonal allergies, etc.) please contact the school nurse, Kate Pe at kpe@cathedralcatholic.org or at (858) 523-4000 ext. 1126. Again, this is out of an abundance of caution, with our ultimate goal of ensuring the health and wellbeing of everyone while here on campus.

Fraudulent Job Postings
Over the last few weeks we have noticed there have been many job postings for positions on campus. These are fraudulent job postings. CCHS is aware of this and has been working to have them removed.

You are welcome to call our Business Office (858 523-4000) if you ever have any questions or want to confirm a future announcement.
