Drop Everything And Read

Jefferson will be Dropping Everything And Read

On Friday, March 3rd @ 1:45pm Jefferson will be celebrating reading and the conclusion of our Book Fair

D.E.A.R. Day is a special reading celebration to remind and encourage children and families to make reading together on a daily basis a family priority. D.E.A.R. stands for Drop Everything and Read. We invite you to join us on campus on Friday, March 3rd at 1:45 p.m. to read with your child. Please note that this is a parents only event and is intended to be a quiet, reading time to relax, read, and enjoy the outdoors with your school-age child(ren). Classes are to stay together; therefore we will have pods spread throughout the field. If you have children in different classes you may rotate between the classes, but the children will stay with their teacher.

  • Bring a blanket, beach towel, or beach chair (without straight/"pointy" legs) and a good book, magazine or newspaper and meet with your child to quietly read with us out on the field and playground.
  • We ask you to please refrain from brining any snacks and beverages so that the focus remains on reading and so our turf field stays clean.
  • PM TK- 5th grade classes and AM TK & Kindergarteners* who wish return to school will be Dropping Everything And Reading on Friday, March 3rd at 1:45 p.m.
  • AM TK and Kinder students in the CDC will be coming out to D.E.A.R. to re-join their classroom teachers along with CDC staff.
  • We will enjoy the outdoors in our quiet classroom reading groups on the field and playground areas of campus.
  • Each class will have a sign with their room number posted by their reading area so it will be easier to locate them.
  • On this special day, please send your child to school with a beach towel or small blanket to sit on, and their favorite book or two to read.
  • Please refrain from bringing food and drinks as well as non-Jefferson student siblings.
  • Our D.E.A.R. time will conclude at the end of our school day, 2:30 p.m.

At 2:30 p.m. you may "pick up" your student to go home. Please wait until the teacher has dismissed their class before taking them to go home.

Our Book Fair will be open in the library for its final day after the D.E.A.R. event.

We will be clearing the playground and blacktop by 2:45 p.m. for the safety of our after school programs and enrichment classes. We ask for your assistance in ensuring the playground is clear by this time and thank you in advance for your help.
