NUSD Unanimously Supports Campaign to Increase the Number of Young Men of Color Attending and Graduating from Region’s Universities

Natomas Unified School District proudly supports the 1300 Campaign, an initiative spearheaded by Improve Your Tomorrow (IYT), the Sierra Health Foundation, My Brother’s Keeper Sacramento, and the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. The Campaign aims to send an additional 1300 young men of color (YMOC) to Sacramento State and UC Davis by 2025. During the October 13, 2021, Board meeting, Trustees enthusiastically approved a resolution proclaiming their support of the Campaign’s 9-point policy plan, which is directly aligned with the district’s college and career readiness focus. District Updates
By-Trustee Area Map Consideration Hearings Coming Up

As part of the district’s transition to by-trustee area elections, the Board of Trustees will be holding ‘map consideration’ hearings at three future board meetings: October 27, November 17, and December 14. Draft maps will be presented by a demographer during these meetings, and there will be time for public comment.

Inderkum High School Celebrates Homecoming

Inderkum High School held its Homecoming last week, including its Homecoming Varsity Football game Friday. It was an exciting night watching the Tigers beat the River Valley Falcons. Join us tonight for Natomas High School's Homecoming Game as the Nighthawks face the Valley Vikings. The game starts at 7 p.m. Fireworks will be a part of the action as well as homecoming royalty, cheer performance, and Kiki's Kitchen.

Inderkum's Sabor Latino Club paints mural on "The Book" in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month

The Natomas community can now enjoy a beautiful, new mural on “The Book” along Del Paso Road near Inderkum High School painted and designed by students in the Natomas Unified School District. The mural was spearheaded by Inderkum High School’s Sabor Latino Club, which is open to all students to promote community service and appreciation of Hispanic cultural heritage. Natomas Schools Foundation sponsored the painting.

Health Pathway Students at Natomas High School Apply Skills at Booster Vaccination Clinic

Students enrolled in the Health Pathway at Natomas High School were able to gain real world experience when they worked alongside health professionals at NUSD’s COVID Booster Vaccination Clinic. Take a look at the video of the Nighthawks Health Pathway students in action!
"Hamilton" Broadway on Tour comes to Natomas Middle School

During our last newsletter, we shared that Natomas Unified's Girls Leadership Club had the opportunity to engage with a cast member of the Broadway Hit Hamilton and learn a dance routine from the show on tour in Sacramento. 2021 Hispanic Heritage Month Poster Contest Winners Announced

Congratulations to Annabella from Witter Ranch Elementary School, Carolin from Jefferson School, and Selena from Inderkum High School for being selected NUSD's 2021 Hispanic Heritage Month poster contest winners. Each winner did a fantastic job expressing this year's theme, "Esperanza: A Celebration of Hispanic Heritage and Hope." As part of our continued focus on children's literacy, our winners will get to select a book of their choice and enjoy reading it with a delicious pizza from our Community partners Pizza Guys. Their posters are also featured in NUSD Publications, published on the district website, and presented at the October 13 board meeting. We highlighted the poster submissions in a quick video below.
NUSD Recognizes October as Filipino American History Month

NUSD is honored to recognize October as Filipino American History Month. In our District, Filipino American students represent 4.4% of our student population. To celebrate and honor the culture, traditions, history and contributions of the Filipino culture, we have planned some fun, engaging, and educational activities that the entire community can enjoy.

Keep an eye out for our next newsletter, which will feature a "story time" recording of some of our students who will read a children's book that highlights Filipino culture and a cooking segment featuring Vince Caguin, Executive Director of Nutrition Services, demonstrating making Chicken Adobo, a popular Filipino dish.

Secondary Showcase planned for November 3rd

On Wednesday, Nov. 3 from 6-8 p.m., all families are invited to attend Secondary Showcase Night at Leroy Greene Academy. This is the night we showcase all of NUSD’s secondary programs and offerings. If you have a student entering into middle school next year or high school, you definitely want to come and see all the offerings available to them.

PSA's due Today for National Bullying Prevention Month

Did you hear? Our Bullying Prevention PSA contest has been extended to today! Students still have the chance to submit a 60-second PSA that will help spread their messages about how each of us (individually or as a group) can prevent/end bullying in a kind, nonviolent manner. The contest is divided into four winners: K-3, 4-6, 7-8, and 9-12. Students will have until 11:59 p.m. today to submit their PSA's. Winners will receive lunch of their choice from a pre-selected menu on October 22. For contest details and bullying prevention resources, click here. New COVID Vaccination Clinics

NUSD is hosting three vaccination clinics on October 22, November 12, and December 3 at the NUSD Service Center located at 1931 Arena Blvd. Patients can receive their 1st or 2nd dose at this clinic. If receiving your 2nd dose, please make sure to bring the CDC vaccination card from your 1st appointment. Vaccinations are available to all patients 12 and up. Walk-ins accepted! NUSD also offers free COVID testing every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the same location above. For more information or to register for a test, click here.
Joey's Food Locker Distribution Every Friday

Joey's Food Locker, Natomas' neighborhood food bank, is distributing 15,000 worth of food each Friday from 3:30-5 p.m. until further notice. If anyone you know is in need, please have them stop by between those hours. Food distribution is first come, first serve. Joey's Food Locker is located at Natomas High School (near the tennis courts), 3301 Fong Ranch Rd. Feel free to spread the word!

Application Deadline Extended to October 22 for Diverse Future Teachers Program

NUSD is accepting applications for its innovative program that invests in future teachers who reflect the diversity of our community and make a long-term commitment to our students. Applications will be accepted through Oct. 22 for the Diverse Future Teacher Recruitment Program, which offers financial incentives to help a limited number of college graduates earn their teaching credential in return for serving NUSD students for three years or more.
