May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. We are excited to spend the month sharing how our schools celebrate and highlight AAPI culture, including activities, literature, lesson plans, and more. To kick off AAPI Heritage Month, we invite all families to attend a movie night featuring Disney's "Raya and the Dragon" at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 6, at Paso Verde School. This event will also include a cultural dinner and martial arts presentation.

Learn more about AAPI Heritage Month on our social media accounts. We will educate the community with important facts about AAPI culture and share a compilation of books, articles, and resources that staff may incorporate into their instruction and engagement activities in celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

BCS Middle Schoolers Get First-Hand Experience with Frog Anatomy

bcs frog anatomy 2.jpeg

Bannon Creek Middle School students studied the internal and external anatomical structures of a frog. Dissecting scissors and a couple of incisions through skin and muscle revealed the internal organs, which were easily seen as distinct entities. The arteries were dyed red and the veins blue to allow students to also track the pattern of blood flow in the cardiovascular system.

Many students also witnessed frogs that showed signs of hyperactive ovary syndrome. Students were amazed, and some were slightly shocked by what they discovered. As students explored the internal anatomy, they talked about how the internal structures such as the fat bodies and intestines are important to survival and identified the similarities and differences between human and frog anatomies. Dissection Day is a day to be remembered for all.
