A Mother's Advice

A Love Story: A Memoir by Rhoda Mayerson (publ. 2014)

A mother's advice is indelible if not invaluable. How much we can learn about a person or family from the things they say over and over again! The following excerpt is from the late Rhoda Mayerson's memoir, regarding unforgettable advice from her beloved mother:

  • "Don't talk about other people's children; you never know what your own children will do."
  • "Do not anticipate the answer before you ask the question!"
  • "If someone pays you a compliment, just smile and say thank you. Don't argue with them or compliment them back. Don't automatically say something like, 'Well, you look great, too!' Just say thank you. That's enough."
  • "Never leave your undergarments for someone else to wash."
