How Can You Share the Love . . . About Riverwalk Academy?

As many know, February is when we celebrate Valentine's Day and we did just this over the past week.  Many take the day to think about those we love.  February is also a great time to share with others what you love about your school with prospective families.

Here are a few things you can do to help recruit new families.

Word of Mouth

There is nothing better than a mom talking with another mom and a dad talking with another dad. We want others to simply know about the choice of children learning in an environment through a project-based learning model.  We find that we can send out alota lot of communication in a variety of formats but telling others about your experience is our best advertising. Think of those who have children who will start kindergarten next year. Let them know about us.

Social Media

Feel free to copy/past or share any items from our Facebook, Twitter, Instagram accounts. So many of you have connections with others who haven't heard about our school. You can also send them to our website, forward a newsletter, or give our email address. Use whatever is easiest for you to share with other families.

Flyers for Daycares or Community Organizations

Reach out to Ms. Bumgarner and she’ll provide you some fliers to take to programs that have four year-olds who will start school in the fall. Feel free to share these with church or community organizations that may help inform families. If you choose to drop off flyers, please let our office staff know where you are taking them so we can know that school or organization has been covered.

Invite Us to Come and Share

We love to tell our school story of impacting the next generation of change makers. If you are a member of a club or organization that might be interested in having us speak, we are more than glad to come and make a presentation in whatever format works for you. I'm always amazed when someone tells me, "I’ve never heard of Riverwalk Academy.”

Leave a Review

There are numerous school review websites and we’d be honored if you took a few minutes to leave us a review.  Niche, Great Schools, or Google.  I’ve found that for many sites like these, people will leave a review when they are upset, but not when things are going well.  Help us change the narrative of these review websites by telling them about your experience at Riverwalk Academy.

To date, we've had only 12 students who have indicated that they are leaving us at the conclusion of this school year.  That’s a 98% projected student retention rate, and for this we are grateful.

We want to "share the love" about Riverwalk Academy and need your help in doing that. We appreciate all the ways you support our school and your child. You are the greatest difference maker in our students.

In Strength and Blessings,

~Dr. Compton

A Note from Ms. Carr & Ms. Teague

Greetings,

Random Acts of Kindness Month continues! Please remember to share the calendar with your family and encourage your children to continue to be kind every day. Here is a suggested reading list for you to help spread kindness at home: Book List

In our classroom lessons, students continue to enjoy coloring their superhero emblems and capes and sharing how they have been kind. The older students enjoyed their game of kindness bingo we played. Ask them about it!

These activities will continue through the end of the month.

We are planning for March and are very excited. We look forward to telling you about it soon!

Hope you enjoy your extra long weekend! Take time to be kind to yourself and practice self-care!

(((Hugs)))

Ms. Carr and Ms. Teague

Read Across America Week

Each year at the beginning of March we celebrate Read Across America Week. This week is a time to motivate students to read, especially books that promote diversity and inclusion. Fall in love with reading this week by participating in our dress up days. We’d also love for you to help us duct tape our principal by telling us all about your favorite book.

A Note from Dr. Dempsey

Hello PRIDE!!

We have had a great week. I hope everyone gets to enjoy the long weekend and gets some rest. We are rapidly closing in on the final four weeks of this quarter. Please make sure your student is checking in PowerSchool and keeping up so they can finish the nine weeks strong.

We have several events coming up, on March 10 we will have the NAMI presentation for grades 6-9 called Ending the Silence. This presentation discusses the lived experiences of people who have dealt with mental illness. Please see the graphic below for more detailed information. There will be a permission letter coming home on Tuesday, to attend your student must have the letter signed.

We also have Caregiver 101 on February 27 at 8:30 am in the MPR. SRO Prescott will be presenting information regarding social media and cyberbullying. This will also be live streamed for those who cannot attend in person.

Riverwalk has a heart for Miracle Park starts next week- please see the graphic above and help us to support this cause.

As we continue with Random Acts of Kindness this month, please encourage your student to be kind to all they meet. Part of our work here at RWA centers around students have respect and integrity and being kind is key to be respectful and having integrity.

As always, thank you for trusting us with your student and please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Warmly,

Christy Dempsey

Dual Enrollment Students

Dual Enrollment students:

Congratulations! You are entering the last full week of your current York Tech classes! New classes will start on March 6, after your long weekend. Make sure you check your Navigate one final time to see what your classes will be for the final 8 weeks of the year. I am so proud of how hard you have all been working this year. Your well-earned break is coming! A few tips for your last week and a half:

  • Check D2L for your grades- remember in order to receive college credit for your York Tech classes, you must earn a grade of "C" or higher.
  • If you're borderline for grades, look at the grade book for your class and see if you have missing assignments. If you do, reach out to your professor. Even if you're worried they will say no, it can't hurt to ask if you can make up the work!
  • Check to see what your final exam or assignment will be in each class. Some courses have an assignment labeled "final" but it's really just a last test, others have final projects, and some have final exams that cover all material from the course.
  • If you don't where to start studying for final exams, please reach out! I am happy to help you create a final exam plan.
  • Breathe! You're almost finished with this set of courses
