Join us this week as World Travelers takes us on a week long journey to Colombia. Students will learn about the country's rich traditions - from music and dance to food and FUTBOL!

There is no need to sign up for World Travelers this time, as all students will be able to experience Colombia! The Hubbard Woods entryway will be transformed, immersing students in local wildlife, art and more. Throughout the week, our very own Maria Shideler will be stopping by Spanish classes to share a travelogue presentation on Colombia. Using Schoology, students can submit any questions on Colombia on Flipgrid and check Nearpod for a quiz to see what you've learned. We'll pick one winner from each grade to receive a World Travelers Prize Pack!

Want to join in on the fun at home? Check Schoology where you'll find everything you need to dance along to a playlist of Colombian music, check out a map of local Colombian businesses or learn how to make Colombian arepas for a tasty treat! Are you a new family to Hubbard Woods school? Now that the school year is in full swing, maybe you have some questions or feel ready to meet some other new families.

The PTO and New Family Welcome Committee are hosting a New Parent Coffee for families that started in the 2020-21 or 2021-22 School Years on Wednesday, October 20 from 8:30-9:30 AM at Mann Park, the triangle park across from the school at the Burr/Laurel/Vine intersection.

Join us in sprucing up our beautiful school during the Annual Hubbard Woods Fall Clean Up on Saturday, October 23 from 9AM - 3PM. Click HERE to sign up for a time and area to clean up and get it on your calendar.

Spend whatever amount of time your family has to help pull weeds, rake mulch, rake leaves and pick up any litter. BYOT (Bring Your Own Tools!) such as weeders, rakes, trowels, brooms and gloves for little and big hands alike - children are encouraged to help! Rain date is Sunday, October 24. See you there!

Just a reminder to order your child's school pictures online from Stuart-Rodgers Photography by Tuesday, October 19 to take advantage of free shipping! You should have received an email with your child's school pictures directly from Stuart-Rodgers Photography.

Picture Retake Day will be Tuesday, October 26 for any children who missed Picture Day or who are unhappy with their original photo.

The beloved HW tradition of the Ghost Walk is back this year! The Ghost Walk is a parade of HW students around the school dressed in their Halloween costumes, with parents watching from the sidelines. The Ghost Walk will be Friday, October 29 with schedule of: Grades K-1 will parade from 1:40-2:10PM and Grades 2-4 will parade from 2:15-2:45PM.

Stay tuned for details from teachers and room parents for specific classroom celebrations.

In lieu of the annual Fall Luncheon, the PTO is planning an outdoor Yoga Sculpt class on Friday, November 12 at 8:45AM on the turf at Skokie Playfields. Everyone from our Hubbard Woods parent community is welcome and the class is free! We will enjoy coffee and treats after class for a chance to socialize.

Yoga Sculpt is a total mind-body workout for ALL fitness levels. The class will be set to energizing music and designed to tone and sculpt every major muscle group by combining plyometrics, strength training and Vinyasa-style yoga. This class will get your mind focused and your heart pumping!
