Annual Fall Church Cleanup Went Great
Last weekend's event was a BIG success thanks to many volunteers! They say many hands will make light work. Well, many hands joined together last Saturday to help get our church looking good and ready for winter. Thanks so much to everyone who came out and contributed to this important Building & Grounds Ministry event!

Guided Meditation Gathering THIS SUNDAY
Our Worship & Music Ministry invites you to join us for a special Guided Meditation Gathering on Sunday (Oct. 18) from 7-7:30pm near the fire pit. This evening meditation will begin with a devotional and the gentle sound of a "singing bowl." Participants will be asked to focus on their breath, the feeling of the brisk fall air, and the candlelit focal point. Our minds will turn inward to find God’s presence in the center of ourselves. We will ask that presence to help us - especially during this time of pandemic and stress - to find a sense of calm and compassion. It's planned for outside near our fire pit if the weather permits (if not, in the Family Life Center). Please dress warm, bring a lawn chair, and join us for this special time together.

Attention Families with Young Children!
We won't let this pandemic keep us from our annual Family Halloween Party! It'll just look a bit different. We'll gather via Zoom on Wednesday, October 28, from 6-7pm. Be on the lookout for a Bingo sheet in the mail and a Zoom link via email. Wear your costume and come ready for some fun as well as a devotion. Please let Pastor Meggan know (meggan@firstunitedpc.org) if you can join the party!

Book Study: Paddle for a Purpose
a memoir by Barb (Hoops) Geiger
Barb’s book fits perfectly into our 2021 Stewardship theme - “Sharing the Light of Christ.” It's the story of paddling down the Mississippi from the headwaters to the Gulf in a 20 foot homemade wooden kayak. No ordinary kayak - no ordinary journey! “God wanted us to put out the story,” according to Barb. The book chronicles the amazing five month journey of faith that took Barb and her husband Gene to quaint river towns where they volunteered with local charities for a day or two and then paddled on their way. It's a story of trust in God and service to others. The book was the first-place winner in the 2019 PenCraft Award for Literary Excellence in the memoir category. More information is available at paddleforapurpose.net
Barb looks forward to sharing her adventures with our church readers through a Zoom meeting on Wednesday, November 18, at 6:30pm. The church office will take orders for the $20 book. By purchasing books directly from Barb, all profits will go to the 24 non-profit organizations they serviced. When placing an order, let the office know if you want the book signed and if you want the signing personalized (list your name as you’d want it in the signing). Please have your orders in to the office by next Wednesday (Oct. 21). If you have any questions, please contact Rita Kilmer who is helping to organize this wonderful opportunity.
*The Hoops family - Dr. Hal, wife Fran, Barb, and her brothers - were longtime active members of F.U.P.C. before moving to a home on the Bay. Building the kayak became a years-long father/daughter project that would be completed by Barb and her husband following Hal’s death. Hal had been Scoutmaster of our church Boy Scout troop, and Barb is a retired teacher.

This Sunday is "Commitment Sunday" for turning in your 2021 Estimate of Giving
Thanks again for your continued financial support! You should have received your 2021 Pledge Card to be mailed in this week. You can also drop it off at the church office by today (Oct. 15) between 9am and 2pm or turn it in at church this Sunday. We are blessed to have so many members and friends who support our congregation financially. Together we've been able to “Grow” in 2020, and we look forward to “Sharing the Light of Christ” in 2021 as we continue “Changing lives through God’s love in Christ” as a congregation, First United.

We wanted to make everyone aware of a couple of event changes. First, in case you haven't already heard, our Men's Club has reluctantly decided to cancel this year's Fruitcake Sale due to safety concerns. Also, after discussions with leadership of both churches, it's been decided not to hold our joint Thanksgiving worship service with First Presbyterian of Green Bay this year. Please watch our communications for all the latest on plans and changes.
