Catch of the Day
Chris recently took part in one of his favourite sports, the sport of fishing. He and a support worker, Tyler, had a great time by the water! Chris was excited to share the news of his catch with his friends during a Virtual Supports Zoom session.
Shane and Louis Plant Their Tree
People receiving supports in Amherstburg joined others in their community to watch Amherstburg’s tree canopy grow together!

The 2022 Earth Day initiative, called Essex Power’s Map and Grow Program, is a partnership of Thrive Amherstburg, the municipality and scientists from the University of Windsor. To become involved, residents had to agree to allow university researchers determine where in the yard the trees should be planted, to water and take care of the tree and allow members of the research team occasional access to check on the tree’s growth.

In total, nine of our support locations in the Amherstburg area registered to participate.

Shane and Louis planted their tree after all of the rain we had earlier this month.
It Takes A Village To Raise a Child
For the grieving families in Uvalde, Texas the innocence of youth has been forever shattered and lost. Their families’ lives will never be the same. No one will ever comprehend the heartache families, friends, and communities are enduring following the tragic elementary school shootings.
You as supporters of children and adults with intellectual disabilities understand the value and need for community support in your daily existences.
It is our hope that our American neighbours will find inner strength as they navigate the difficult hours, days, months, and years ahead. May the coming years bring about societal changes to improve the lives of all.
We as caring citizens know and understand the African proverb,
“It takes a village to raise a child.” - ENSEMBLE - together.

On May 31st, Take Break for
Community Living Month!
#ITookABreak22

Feel like you need a moment or two? On Tuesday, May 31st, Community Living Ontario is encouraging everyone to celebrate Community Living Month by taking a virtual “break” together!

Celebrated annually since 2000, Community Living Toronto’s “I Took A Break” social media campaign sees thousands of voices across Ontario join together to “take a break” in support of the rights and choices of people with an intellectual disability. This year, we’ll be taking a virtual break together to share our favourite snacks, be entertained by a musical guest, and watch the premiere of Community Living Ontario's blue and green photo montage! Join in to:
  • Reflect on the amazing work that Community Living friends, members, and staff do each day to support people who have an intellectual disability
  • Relax during a busy time of the year
  • Recharge with a favourite snack and enjoy the live music of Nelson Sobral
  • Remember the month that was with a celebratory montage filled with blue and green photo submissions from across Ontario!

So, settle in with your favourite people and snacks, rest for a few moments, and enjoy the show!
Every year, as part of Community Living Month, Community Living organizations across Ontario encourage thousands of people across the province to "take a break" from their day and post a selfie in support of inclusive communities. This year, we’ll be taking a break to thank all of our amazing employees who inspire possibilities for the people they support each and every day!

We hope you’ll join the #ITookABreak22 campaign on Tuesday, May 31st!

Here’s how:
  • We're sending KitKat bars out to employees at all of our locations
  • Take a selfie with your KitKat – before you eat it!
  • Save the selfie on your cell phone
  • On May 31st, post your selfie to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter
  • Include the hashtag #ITookABreak22
  • Send your selfie to nkristy@communitylivingessex.org so we can share online and in the Possibilities newsletter!
