The Parks and Recreation Department has opened registration for fall sports and activities.

From art classes and cheerleading to flag football and adult team sports, every member of the family has the opportunity to get active, get outside, and get involved.

The 2021 Well-O-Rama Music Festival and Games will be held on Saturday, August 7th from 3:00 - 7:00 pm in Centennial Park in downtown Wellington.

The event will feature live music from local favorites Mountain Duo, Titonic, and Matt Skinner Band, team games, kids activities, and vendors!

Food and drinks will be provided by Matador Food Truck, The Cakery, Fork Yeah, Soul Squared Brewing Company, Sparge Brewing, Cantina Liquor, and Old Colorado Brewing.

Senior Resource Center
The Wellington Senior Resource Center is open and offering valuable service to the community after a year of limited service due to COVID-19. The center is championed by wonderful volunteers who served over 2,132 hours in 2019. Seeking to create a welcoming and helpful space for the community’s seniors, Director Dorothy McClure shared, “The Wellington Senior Center provides vital support to area seniors by providing a gathering place to share a healthy meal with friends; a friendly place to obtain useful information regarding senior issues; and stimulating fun and educational outings.”

The Wellington Senior Resource Center was recently awarded a grant for up to $65,000 from the Larimer County Office on Aging. This grant is for the purchase of a new 15 passenger bus to transport seniors as needed. Transportation is available within a 15-mile radius of Wellington. Seniors may schedule the pickup of groceries, mail, and prescriptions as well as to Fort Collins for medical appointments and Covid-vaccines.

The center is staffed by volunteers on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8 a.m. through around 1 p.m. Lunch is served at Noon, reservations can be made 1 day in advance by calling (970) 472-9630. Arrangements can also be made for home-delivered meals by phone at (970) 472-9630.

The volunteers on the Parks Advisory Board meet on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 6 p.m. A monthly commitment of around five hours would make a member successful.

The Town of Wellington is celebrating the opening of our first electric vehicle charging stations now available at Kum & Go.

Lieutenant Governor, Dianne Primavera, officially opened the site with a ribbon-cutting on August 4, 2021. The project was successfully completed through a collaboration between Colorado Energy Office, ChargePoint, Kum & Go, and the Town of Wellington.

The four ChargePoint stations offer electric vehicle drivers a fast charge with the town's many amenities just a short walk away.

Mayor Hamman said, "this is the future and we are so proud to remain on the cutting edge of innovative as Colorado's northern gateway."

The Wellington Board of Trustees has established a Hardship Utility Grant program to assist Wellington residents with up to $300 a year toward their household water bill.

Wellington water utility users who are experiencing a hardship and meet the eligibility requirements should apply by clicking here. The definition of hardship has not been limited to attempt to include as many people experiencing a difficult time as possible. There are several examples of hardships that may impact a family’s ability to pay including workplace or vehicle accidents, reduced income due to job loss or reduction in hours, medical bills, divorce, loss, etc. 

The application requires documentation to substantiate the financial hardship statement. This documentation may be a pay stub comparison, medical bill, tax income documents, etc. If you are experiencing financial hardship and need help determining what documents will satisfy substantiation, please do not hesitate to contact Town Hall.

This program has been funded through sales tax in the amount of approximately $1 per resident or $12,000 total for the program.

Assistance will be distributed on a first come first serve basis until the fund is exhausted.

Comprehensive Plan Adopted
The Planning Commission adopted "Plan Well: Visions for Tomorrow, Solutions for Today," on August 2nd, 2021, the Comprehensive Plan for the Town of Wellington. The identified community vision is built upon the four pillars of Community Cohesion, Vibrant & Historic Downtown, Thriving Economy, and Reliable & Resilient Public Services. The vision and pillars are the foundation for goals and strategies that will assist Wellington's growth into 2040.

Within the Comprehensive Plan is the Future Land Use Map, which shows the eventual Growth Management Area. This proccsess will help to guide purposeful growth and zoning changes, at the request of landowners, as development and redevelopment occur.

Comprehensive plans are used as long-range guiding documents and provide the framework for policy to implement regulatory tools like zoning, subdivision regulations, annexations, codes, and standards.

The next step in the process is to align the Comprehensive Plan with the Land Use Code. Parts of the Land Use Code update have been underway to align with changing federal land use law, and more substantial zoning changes will follow now that the comprehensive plan is adopted.
Fence Building Guide
Planning to add or replace a fence at your house? Homes can have a 6-foot privacy fence in the backyard. Fences in front yards and homes on corner lots have other considerations too. Some HOAs have different requirements, so it's important to check with them as well.

Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) Region 4 is currently asking for feedback on bike and pedestrian safety along CDOT owned roads such as
Highway 1.

Outdoor potable watering restrictions are in place for summer 2021. Ensuring the water treatment plant capacity to produce indoor drinking water (potable) remains the top priority, especially during peak demand season.

Efficiently watering your lawn makes a huge difference for the treatment plant's capacity; every drop truly does matter.

Water restrictions are as follows:
  • Outdoor watering is permitted between 7 p.m. and 8 a.m.
  • Odd street numbers watering permitted on Tues. and Sat.
  • Even street numbers watering permitted on Wed. and Sun.
  • Irrigation runoff shall be kept to a minimum.
  • Overspray onto non-vegetated areas is strictly prohibited.
  • Washing outside paved or concrete areas is prohibited.

Residents with non-potable irrigation systems (water not treated for drinking/consumption) are encouraged to limit water use but are not mandated by these restrictions.
Back to School - Highlighting Wellington's Wonderful Schools
The Town of Wellington is proud of the three, soon to be four, exceptional schools in our community. There is something special about the unique partnership with Poudre School District that provides the resources of a large district while also allowing the preservation of the small-town character, quintessential to Wellington.  
 
There is simply so much to celebrate! From teachers, students, and staff to overall organizational achievements; we are excited to begin highlighting what makes our Wellington schools particularly wonderful each month.
 
With continued uncertainty around what the school year will look like, one thing is certain; together, we can make this a wonderful year for the students of Wellington. Melissa Duvé, principal of Rice Elementary said "The Rice Raptor Team is excited to welcome students and families back to the 2021-2022 school year. Together we SOAR!" Our local principles energy, and excitement for the year is unmatched! Kristin Broadbelt, principal of Eyestone Elementary added "We are so excited to see all our Cougars back on August 16! It is going to be a fantastic year."
