Business SPOTLIGHT
HOW TO GO FROM A GREAT IDEA TO A GREAT PRODUCT

Meet Jacob Garnett, Co-Founder of JMakes3D of College Park, MD. Jacob has been helping to turn ideas into virtual prototypes and 3D models since 2019.

JMakes3D specializes in 3D printing and manufacturing working prototypes to help inventors and entrepreneurs display a physical product that they can demonstrate. Even though most of their customers have consumer-based products, JMakes3D has created models and prototypes for everything including a custom lint brush, drones, and high-tech solar retro fitting kits.

JMakes3D was very much in their infancy stage when the pandemic first hit, and similar to other businesses, COVID-19 had a negative impact on JMakes3D’s business. Since their business model primarily used networking and “Start-up” events as their main source for customer acquisition, when these events were eliminated, Jacob was forced to pivot and completely change how they found new clients.

Mr. Garnett began to build partnerships with several incubators, including the Innovation Station Business Incubator (ISBI) at the Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation. It was at the ISBI where Jacob was introduced to TEDCO - an early-stage technology funder - and ultimately received a grant to improve JMakes3D’s website, bringing in even more customers.

As the County is reopening, JMakes3D continues to partner with numerous entrepreneurs and innovators that need help taking their product from a great idea to a physical model/ prototype. In the future, Jacob is looking to evolve JMakes3D into three separate branches: A product design branch, a “manufacturing cluster” branch, and hopefully a ‘Maker Space’ branch where “Cool people will learn how to make cool stuff.”

If you are an entrepreneur or a start-up company and you need a detailed physical rendering of your product, please visit www.jmakes3d.com/ and let them help take you from a great idea to a great product.
