Do-Overs

Welcome Back to Another BobBlast!

This BobBlast is all about DO-OVERS… And I have a lot of them! But here's the thing, I don't throw away the paintings that just haven't worked… yet.

This issue of the Weekly BobBlast has me outside my studio, working on the deck. I am brushing gesso over older paintings - demos that I've never finished or experiments that didn't turn out. Remember, in my daily warmups, I always say, "Many are called, but few are chosen."

So, rather than throw away those turkeys, I save the paper, canvas and other surfaces with gesso! I re-gesso, back to a plain white ready-to-work surface - turning those turkeys into a Thanksgiving Day Dinner! How timely too!

Back to the gesso... I prefer a thick, creamy, smooth, titanium-rich acrylic gesso. It will cover the bad surface in one coat. I am left with a subtle texture underneath the new coat of gesso - makes me smile when I look at the new, clean, white surface!
