URGENT — ASK YOUR SENATOR TO SUPPORT HB 404
House Bill 404, sponsored by Representative Kasey Carpenter (R-4), would enact the Safe at Home Act to strengthen consumer protections for tenants. This bill was introduced in response to "Dangerous Dwellings," an investigation by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that found tens of thousands of metro area renters living in perilous conditions.

If passed, the bill would require Georgia landlords to provide housing that is "fit for human habitation" when the lease is signed and maintain the property throughout the duration of the lease. Additionally, it would provide tenants who fail to pay rent a three-day grace period before their landlords may file for eviction in court and cap security deposits at the equivalent of two months' rent.

HB 404 passed unanimously out of the House and has passed out of the Senate Judiciary Committee. It is now up for a vote on the Senate floor.

We need your voice on this issue! Please contact your Senator and ask them to vote YES on HB 404, the Safe at Home Act, to help protect Georgia's tenants!
Throughout the session, we are continuing to advocate for the passage of legislation that ensures equity and justice for all Georgia consumers. To keep up-to-date on other issues we're following, visit our Take Action page.
