Get Ready For School
Plan For Safe Return In Classrooms.
As families, teachers, and communities prepare for school to begin in the fall, monitoring COVID-19 trends among children can help develop expectations and plans for a safe return to the classroom. 

In the first 12 months of the COVID-19 pandemic, 13,621 children had been diagnosed with COVID-19 in North Dakota, with the number and proportion in all confirmed cases increasing into summer 2021.

In this article Matt Schmidt, epidemiologist and Grace Njau, Director in the Division of Special Projects and Health Analytics at the North Dakota Department of Health, present an analysis of COVID-19 case data among children in North Dakota during the first 12 months of the pandemic with an update on recent trends and comparison with national data.

Count The Children.
Overall, the children and youth population in North Dakota increased 21 percent from 2010 to 2020. However, this increase has not been consistent across the state. Counties in western North Dakota experienced the largest increase, followed by metropolitan counties. Conversely, 18 counties experienced a decrease in the children and youth population from 2010 to 2020.
