Morris Park 'Little Yemen' host of the first ever Bronx "National Small Business Week"

The May 6, 2022 celebration of the "National Small Business Week" in Morris Park Little Yemen co-hosted by Morris Park BID was a great success! We are very thankful for the partnership of the NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS) along with YAMA, AYAB, BOEDC, that came together to highlight the success of our small businesses. With the theme “Around the World in NYC,” Morris Park was chosen as the Bronx host of this five boroughs series of events. We were honored to welcome the NYC Mayor Eric Adams to our community! Celebrations included remarks, entertainment, the SBS Mobile Unit, and a resource fair with information from community partners and City agencies including: SBS, DOB, DCWP, CCHR, MOIA, DSNY, DOHMH, HRA, NYPD, FDNY, DEP. Thank you to all that made the event possible, including MPBID Board Director Sal Alghati, that was the small business owner featured at the event. | |

MPBID is proud of seeing our community engagement work in #MorrisPark being highlighted in the report, along with our collaboration with Loving the Bronx, alleviating food vulnerability and providing fresh produce to the community during the pandemic. Thanks to the Business Initiative Corporation of NY for convening again the Bronx Banker's Breakfast, after a 2 year hiatus. Access to capital remains one of the critical challenges for #Bronx small businesses - we are grateful to the many community banks helping out in the process - and the coordinating work of @bicofny @boedc Bronx BP @bronxbpgibson Deputy BP @jpegnyc! The grand re-opening of the indoor dining space at Addeo's was on Saturday, May 14, 2022. Guests enjoyed not only the fresh, clean and modern new decor, but also music, dinner specials, drinks and the best espresso martini in the Bronx ! Check out their new cool video here.

Morris Park BID Beautification Program - Spring 2022 Planting | |
We were excited to get our Morris Park Ave beautification program started on May 16 and 17, with brand news spring plantings. Our partners at The Horticulture Society of New York cleaned, mulched and planted 47 guarded tree pits on the commercial corridor. | |  |

MPBID is grateful for external funding assisting this program, provided by NY State Assembly Member Michael Benedetto, and and by the NYC Council D13. Thank you #MorrisPark community and pet owners for helping us keep the avenue clean and green!

Free Community Arts Workshops
Coming to Morris Park "Hanging Garden" May 7 - July 30, 2022

We are thrilled to announce that local Artist Ruth Marshall has been awarded a Bronx Council on the Arts grant for which MPBID provided a Letter of Support, to beautify our local Morris Park Community Garden with a colorful, crocheted art installation. Free workshops will be held every Saturday morning, between May 7th and July 30th at 11AM - 1PM so that you can join in, learn how to crochet, and help to make our neighborhood beautiful! All skills levels welcome. You can see crocheted flowers already at the entrance to the garden at 1000 Sackett Ave, at the end of Colden Ave!
