Alumni in the Spotlight
Brendan Dwyer
Class of 2006
This past year, OMC alum Brendan Dwyer ’06 started a year of service in Guatemala with God’s Child Project, a non-profit entity Headquartered in Minneapolis. Among other things, this is a group who build one room houses for people who are without homes. The homes built are 12 feet by 16 feet. The group is also running a malnutrition center for babies and young children.
Brendan’s mom, Marianne Dwyer, who many remember for her years of dedicated service to OMC, was the former director of Teens Inc, a non-profit teen group serving Chestnut Hill, Mt. Airy and the surrounding suburbs. Since 2009, Marianne and a group of teens have made the trip to Guatemala 7 times and have built close to 50 homes. Many of this wonderful group of teens were OMC Alums, including Brendan, his twin brother Michael, Maureen Lasek ’06 and Matt George ‘06.
In 2019, several of these young adults recently took an Alumni trip there which include Brendan and his twin brother, Michael. Brendan was so moved that he made the decision to quit his job and work there for a year.
Currently, he is serving as a National Director overseeing our Service Team/volunteer program, Casa Jackson Hospital for Malnourished Infants, Santa Madre Homeless Shelter, as well as several other programs. Would you like to learn more? Here is the link to GCP (www.GodsChild.org).
