Worship with us this Sunday!
November 21| 10:00AM

Worship In-Person in the Sanctuary or on Facebook Live… or later on YouTube

Our scriptures for today are Joel 2:21-27 (Celebrating what God gives us) and Matthew 6:25-33 (Jesus telling the people then and now not to worry because God takes care of us).

It’s Thanksgiving Sunday so we will receive our annual offering for Every Child’s Hope (everychildshope.org) founded by our UCC St Louis family here in 1858 as an orphanage for immigrant children who lost their parents in cholera outbreaks. Currently, more than 200 staff members across Missouri are dedicated to preventing child abuse, treating emotional trauma and mental health issues, providing aftercare and follow-up services and so much more.

We will also receive 2022 pledges for our mission and ministry ...
Reminder from The Stews
As we are raking up leaves and getting ready for winter, so are your “Stews” collecting pledges so that PUCC can prepare for 2022. If you have not already turned yours in, please do so. We will have baskets available on Sunday, or you can mail yours in. Need a new card? Just let Harold Cobb ([email protected]) or Ellie Svenson ([email protected]) know.  Your serious consideration for making a generous gift is vital to the life of the church. - Your Stewardship Commission

NAMI is the

Talk 4 Tyler: You’re Not Alone… a way to honor Tyler Wessel and support NAMI

It’s High School Basketball season! Join us for the boys basketball season opener - Parkway Central v. Parkway South. Before the 7pm varsity game, we will remember Tyler Wessel and what he meant to the PC community. The sad reality is that Tyler took his own life after battling depression. Our memories of Tyler are vivid and the pain is still fresh. But what we want, what Tyler's parents Cindy and Ralf want, and what Tyler's close friends want... is for his legacy to live on in a way that benefits others.

The basketball players are selling t-shirts, wristbands, and raffle tickets. All proceeds will be donated to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) in Tyler's memory.

Additionally, close friends of Tyler and Tyler's family have already worked to raise funds for a Tyler Wessel Memorial Scholarship. $6000 has been raised, and the plan is to award two $3000 scholarships to graduating PC seniors this year who embody Tyler's qualities of kindness and inclusiveness. This effort was spearheaded by 2020 grad Hunter King. What an awesome gift this will be to the PC community in Tyler's name!

Finally, we hope that these efforts can bring attention to the importance of mental health. We understand that this can be hard to talk about. This is all the more reason that we are compelled to do so. Often we do not know the battles that students, players, or colleagues are fighting beneath the surface. We are hoping to play a part in encouraging open conversations about mental health and equipping people with resources to help. (nami.org)

I love art that sparks great conversation! Susan Dupor, De'VIA artist, does great pieces that really make you think. She is a deaf artist and often incorporates that life experience into her work – including the controversial ‘Family Dog’. Let’s go into her studio to get a closer look at her work.

Special Olympics:
From a backyard summer camp for people with intellectual disabilities to a global movement, Special Olympics has been changing lives and attitudes since 1968.
When people speak of the origin of Special Olympics, they look no further than the first Camp Shriver - founded by Eunice Kennedy Shriver in the early 1960s. They talk of one woman’s dream that started in her own backyard. They speak of her vision: how through sports, the lives of people with intellectual disabilities would be transformed and public perceptions would be changed forever.
Back in 1960, a woman from Bethesda, Maryland called up Eunice and told her that she was having trouble finding a summer camp for her child with intellectual disability. The child wouldn’t be accepted into a mainstream camp, and, at that time, the public education system couldn’t figure out what to do with special-needs children never mind supply them with summer activities. Then another woman told her almost the same thing.
“Enough,” said Eunice.
In Eunice’s world, “enough” has always meant “do something about it.”

November 2021 Alzheimer's News

A new study suggests a popular herb could help prevent Alzheimer's Disease - Basil. The new study published in Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience reveals that fenchol, a naturally occurring compound found in basil, may have a protective effect against Alzheimer's Disease. Fenchol was found to increase FFAR2 signaling, thus reducing levels of amyloid-beta, a protein linked to the development of Alzheimer's Disease, lowering rates and frequency found in the brains of Alzheimer's patients.
