Catholic Charities Bloomington
O’Connell Case retired as Clinical Director on July 15 after seven years of serving the clients that rely on Catholic Charities Bloomington (CCB) for hope and healing. O’Connell served as Clinical Director since 2015 and played a critical role in helping CCB increase its presence in the community and serve more people in need of mental health care. She will remain at Catholic Charities Bloomington as a part-time consultant to help ensure a successful transition. O’Connell looks forward to time spent traveling with her husband during retirement. Michael Stribling, former Associate Clinical Director, has succeeded O’Connell as Clinical Director. He has been with CCB since 2018 and served as Associate Clinical Director from January 2020 to July 2021.
Becky's Place
Becky’s Place is currently serving 12 residents and 10 children. Eleven residents are employed and the other is working with her case manager to find employment. Recently, three residents moved into permanent housing. Thanks to the skills of one of our case managers, we will be able to start offering art therapy to residents.

Community Partners Offer Opportunities for our Residents
Becky’s Place continues to have strong relationships with other community agencies. We are partnering with Hoosier Uplands to offer a weekly meeting to help residents work on building healthy relationships. The Lawrence County Community Foundation has awarded us a Workforce Development grant which will be used to provide a computer for residents to use for job searching or to meet employment needs. We are grateful for the continued support that the community shows Becky’s Place.

Holy Family Shelter Summer Camp
The kids in our camp program are having a great summer. There are currently 12 children participating in fun activities like skating, swimming, and bowling while also doing educational activities to prepare for the upcoming school year. Given the transient nature of homeless families, many of the kids we are now serving will move on with their families and new kids will take their place.

We work hard to provide unique and fun activities each week for the kids we serve. Recently, they went to Top Golf with Indianapolis Colts tight end Jack Doyle. Our camp will serve around 80 homeless youth by the end of the summer. Our camp program enables parents at the shelter to focus on their goals of self-sufficiency and independence, because they know their children are in a consistent, reliable, and safe program that allows their kids to simply be kids.
St. Elizabeth Catholic Charities
St. Elizabeth Catholic Charities Celebrated with Supporters at Annual Gala

Staff and Advisory Council Members were blessed to be able to gather with 324 wonderful supporters for the Giving Hope ~ Changing Lives Annual Gala on June 24th at The Galt House. The excitement of a night out, the thrill of seeing familiar faces, and the touching stories of our programs made for a wonderful evening. Hosted by Angie Fenton of Extol, the event featured a video presentation demonstrating how the agency adapted to the challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic and continued to make a difference in the lives of those in need. Watch the video here www.stecharities.org/giving-hope-changing-lives-gala/

The highlight of the evening was the heartfelt testimony of Caprice, a former resident. Caprice arrived at St. Elizabeth with a toddler and another baby on the way. She was working, going to school and trying to do all of the right things to support her family, but always found herself at a disadvantage. Caprice, like so many other single mothers in our community, just needed a little help in her journey to become the empowered, self-sufficient woman she is today. From her uncertain first days in the shelter to now having a great job, being a proud, wonderful mother to her two boys, and even becoming a homeowner, Caprice expressed her thanks to St. Elizabeth for offering the tools to assist her in changing the course of her life.
Catholic Charities Tell City
Catholic Charities Tell City recently held our Red, White and Boom Raffle. During the month of June, staff and volunteers sold tickets for a prize drawing. The live-streamed drawing was held on July 6th since Independence Day was on a Sunday and many people were on vacation. There were six cash prizes with a top prize of $500. An additional $400, $200 and 3 $100 winners were drawn. We are blessed by all those who sold and purchased tickets. Over $4,000 was raised to help support our programs. We would like to extend a special thanks to the $500 winner and one of the $100 winners for generously donating their winnings back to us.

4th Annual Wabash Valley Rubber Duck Regatta Breaks Record!

The 2021 Wabash Valley Rubber Duck Regatta was held July 4 at Fairbanks Park in Terre Haute. While high, fast-moving water prevented the ducks from racing on the Wabash River, a record-breaking 15,576 ducks were adopted for the event! The rubber ducks were released from a large dump truck and the winning duck was plucked while bystanders waited anxiously, hoping to hear their name called. The lucky duck, worth $10,000, belonged to Tracy G. of Naperville, IL! The event raised more than $59,000 for the programs at Catholic Charities Terre Haute and allows us to continue to nourish the minds, bodies, and spirits of our community.
Social Concerns
Social Concerns encourages the community to grow in a deeper understanding of Catholic Social Teaching by providing resources and strategies for effective action in parishes, schools, and surrounding communities. Most importantly, it calls us to a deeper understanding in living out the Two Greatest Commandments, which is to Love God and to Love our Neighbors, both locally and globally.
