A Message from your ASMS SGA President:
It’s a Friday night, and elementary school Nathan is folding origami cranes with his cousin. Back then, I was always immersed in colorful paper, my cousin’s favorite playlists, and, of course, the stories of her high school life. Whenever my cousin babysat me, she would tell me about all the cool things she did in SGA. I was always intrigued, and ever since then, I made it a goal for me to be on SGA whenever I went to high school.

Fast forward to the present, here I am now already in my 3rd year on SGA. Instead of just hearing someone’s stories, I have my own stories to tell. Throughout my time so far on SGA, I have made so many great memories and relationships with people that I will never forget. From the endless nights of planning during meetings to the chaotic fun of events like Prom, Mega Musical Chairs, and grab-and-go food events, there has never been a dull moment for SGA. Don’t get me wrong, being on SGA is a big-time commitment. But the people who I work with and the time we share that has made my role so fulfilling.

Whenever I was thinking of what I wanted to achieve for SGA this year, I remembered what made me so interested in my cousin’s stories and why I loved SGA so much: it’s simply just having good times with the people we love. Everyone on SGA works super hard to make sure everyone at ASMS can enjoy their time on campus and make memories that will last a lifetime. Whether that be through weekend events, campus renovations, or school-wide programs, I can’t wait to see what SGA will accomplish this year. Cheers to the wonderful things this year has in store for us!

2021 - 2022 SGA President

Wag This Way
This year ASMS added a new class -- Intro to Veterinary Medicine. The students have been hard at work learning lab and clinical skills to help land them jobs and internships in vet clinics. For lab last week, they helped check fecal samples for parasites in a group of kittens up for adoption at Animal Rescue Foundation.

They’ve enjoyed also learning how to give vaccinations, start IV’s, perform urine analysis, identify parasites and monitor glucose levels in Ms Rellinger’s diabetic dog Thelma. They’ve also had guest lectures from local veterinarians like Dr. Mandy Rehm (pictured below).
Chess Whose Back!
Chess is back for ASMS. Thursday, September 30th kicked off the start of the 2021-22 season for the Mobile-Baldwin County League and ASMS won ALL FOUR MATCHES. Varsity team beat both Daphne High and Fairhope High and the Junior varsity won over St. Paul's and UMS-Wright. We will not be hosting this year but be on the lookout for an outdoor chess pep rally later this season!

Day One of Spirit Week! -- Cosplay/Anime Day
Saku in 1st period Honors Bio demonstrates the importance of cell's surface area:volume ratio using beets in 1cm3, 2cm3, and 3cm3 models. Larger cells have smaller SA:V ratios and can't efficiently move molecules in or wastes out of the cell, necessitating small cell sizes!
A&P students demonstrate fully to partially functioning kidneys with artificial urine. Statistical analysis was preformed to find if there was a significant difference in our fully functional kidney versus a 25% functional kidney in our funnel models (there wasn't but our sample size was very small). Overall we did see a decline in percent filtration from fully to less functional kidneys.
Congratulations to the Junior Class Officers!
