Cohorts – Your 5th grade child will begin operating in his or her cohort. Instead of having 20 some classmates, they will have half that number.
-
Cohort 1 – Students in cohort 1 can expect that on Monday, October 5 and Thursday, October 8 they will experience synchronous learning to mimic their two “at school” days and on Tuesday, October 6 and Friday, October 9 they will experience asynchronous learning to practice what their “at home” days will look like. It is important to understand that on your child’s “at home” days they will usually be working independently as the teacher is “in person” with the other cohort. Therefore, on their asynchronous days, students will not be required to adhere to their hybrid learning class periods, although they may sometimes be requested to do so on a teacher by teacher basis.

Cohort 2 – Students in cohort 2 can expect that on Monday, October 5 and Thursday, October 8 they will experience asynchronous learning to practice what their “at home” days will look like. On Tuesday, October 6 and Friday, October 9 they will experience synchronous learning to mimic their two “at school” days.
Remember, LNC’s cohorts largely break down with students with last names beginning A-La in cohort 1 and students with last names beginning Le-Z in cohort 2. There are some exceptions and if your family is among them you are aware.
Attendance – There are several important changes with how your students will log their attendance. During next week’s test run, your 5th grade child will answer the attendance question in their core 1/ homeroom on both their “at school” cohort days and "at home" cohort days. Moving forward, it is important to understand that on your child’s “at home” days they will usually be working independently as the teacher is “in person” with the other cohort. Therefore, they will not be required to adhere to their hybrid learning class periods on those days, although they may sometimes be requested to do so on a teacher by teacher basis.
What does NOT change is that your child will still be learning entirely from home next week (October 5 & 6 and 8 & 9), NOT on campus. Wednesday, October 7 remains a student seminar with no changes, i.e., your student can follow their teacher’s procedure for scheduling extra support as needed.
Early next week we will share important information that you will need as we prepare to move into actual hybrid learning where half of our students are physically at school beginning Monday, October 12. We hope the schedule below will help further explain what our MS families can expect over the course of October.
