The Proper Use of Adjectives
From Bishop Tobin
Sometime ago, in an address to Church employees involved in communications, Pope Francis made some intriguing comments about the use of adjectives in public discourse. The Holy Father said that he is “allergic” to the misuse of adjectives. He explained, “We have fallen into the culture of adjectives and adverbs, and we have forgotten the strength of nouns. The culture of the adjective has entered the Church and we forget that we are brothers, by saying that this one is ‘this type of’ brother. Beauty manifests itself from the noun itself.”

House committee considers bills that force Little Sisters, others, in position of violating religious convictions
PROVIDENCE — The House Health and Human Services Committee heard testimony late Monday night on two bills of particular concern to faith communities that would require individual health insurers, large group health insurers and small employer health insurers to provide coverage for 10 categories of essential health benefits identified in the legislation.

Pope Francis' Historic Visit to Iraq
Iraq visit was ‘sign of hope’ for suffering people, pope says
VATICAN CITY (CNS) — Despite years of suffering due to war and terrorism, the people of Iraq continue to look to the future with hope, Pope Francis said.

Recalling his recent visit to the country during his weekly general audience March 10, the pope said that while he saw “the opened wounds of destruction,” he also saw “around me the joy of welcoming Christ’s message.”

“I saw the hope of being open to a horizon of peace and fraternity, summed up in Jesus’ words that were the motto of the visit: ‘You are all brothers,'” he said.

Faith amid the ruins: Pope calls on Iraqis to affirm kinship under one God
VATICAN CITY (CNS) — Pope Francis summarized his “pilgrimage of faith and penitence” to Iraq in a prayer:

“If God is the God of life - for so he is - then it is wrong for us to kill our brothers and sisters in his name.
“If God is the God of peace - for so he is - then it is wrong for us to wage war in his name.
“If God is the God of love - for so he is - then it is wrong for us to hate our brothers and sisters.”

Pope Francis’ visit began March 5 in Baghdad, where he met with government officials in the opulent presidential palace, once home to Saddam Hussein and then the headquarters of the U.S.-led coalition forces that invaded the country in 2003.
