The Snohomish Zombie Walk 2020
Calling all zombies and ghouls!

The 7th Annual Snohomish Zombie Walk is coming up, and ghoulish as ever, albeit more socially distanced.

This year you get to choose where you will haunt.

The Historic Downtown Snohomish Association has teamed up with Snohomish Running Company to bring you a spookily fun semi-virtual walk/run, so start practicing your zombie lurch!

A semi-virtual, ghoulish walk/lurch around Snohomish. You decide where and how far. Registration has started and costs $24. Zombies (socially distanced, of course!) descend on Snohomish between October 17th through the 31st. Proceeds benefit the Snohomish Food Bank.

The cost is $24 to participate and Zombies will have two weeks, from October 17th thru the 31st, to listlessly make their way around town, through their neighborhoods, or around their local park.

Zombies will receive a one-of-a-kind commemorative medal and access to our private Zombie Walk Facebook Group where you can share photos of your zombified experience and interact with other like-minded zombies.

Local farms opening for guests

Under the updated guidelines agritourism farms can have animal viewing, hay and tractor rides, some children’s play equipment and games, as well as private fire pits. Corn mazes are still open for the public to enjoy as well as pumpkin patches. According to the mandate in order to operate business, agritourism farms are required to meet all Agritourism COVID-19 guidelines.

Despite some restrictions being lifted, indoor activities remain banned, meaning no indoor haunted houses or beer gardens. All farms will be restricted to 50% capacity as well. Stocker Farms, or more commonly known as “Stalker Farms” around Halloween, will still have a haunted corn maze but this year will look a little different. According to Stocker, the haunted corn maze will be a drive-thru attraction this year, allowing for an increased amount of social distancing between families and actors. Craven Farm has opened all the approved weekend events and attractions to run throughout the week. According to Mark Craven, the farm has always been open on the weekdays but never with all the attractions you would normally see on the weekends. The idea is more people will take advantage of the weekdays, allowing for less crowds on the weekend.

Craven said since schools are online right now schedules may be more flexible, and they’re encouraging families to come during the week if possible.

Similar to Craven, Bob’s Corn will have all approved daytime attractions open seven days a week, with the only exception being the night maze which will only be open Fridays and Saturdays.

- HDSA HOLIDAY EVENT PLANS FOR 2020 -

It’s Beginning to Feel a Lot Like Christmas…

Just like Santa’s Elves, your dedicated volunteers at the Historic Downtown Snohomish Association are busily planning and creating some wonderful holiday events to draw people to downtown Snohomish.

Keeping with our November and December traditions, our town will be transformed into a Holiday Dreamscape with twinkling holiday lights, decorated storefronts, and magically transformed trees. The Riverfront Gazebo will be decorated for photo opportunities with friends and family.
The HDSA has come up with an ambitious holiday calendar of events and in the spirit of community have invited our fellow service organizations to help make them a reality.

The Tentative calendar – we are optimistic that we will be able to move ahead with the scheduled events, however we still need final approval on several. We will have a definitive calendar by late October. Please bear with us as we work out the final details.

All our events are designed and planned to comply with COVID-19 safety and social distancing recommendations, thus once approved we will need volunteers to help ensure everyone’s safety.

Keep the following dates on your radar, however keep in mind that events may be canceled due to safety concerns.

• November 7 – December 20 – Taste of the Holidays - Vouchers for Dining in Snohomish (Definite event, no volunteers needed)
• November 9 – Giving Trees (Definite event needing volunteers and sponsors – we will be reaching out with more details and specific needs)
• November 12, 13, & 14 – Holiday Open House (Definite event, no volunteers needed)
• November 12 to 21 – Shop Window Decorating Contest (Definite event, no volunteers needed)
• November 28 – Santa Arrives! and we Light the Tree (Definite event needing volunteers – we will be reaching out with more details and specific needs)
• November 28 & 29 – Socially-Distanced Photos with Santa at Randolph Cellars (Tentative event needing volunteers – we will be reaching out with more details and specific needs)

• December 21 – Winter Solstice Walk (Tentative event needing volunteers – we will be reaching out with more details and specific needs)

The Snohomish Chamber of Commerce, the Snohomish Lions Club, our Snohomish Kiwanis, as well as our dedicated merchants, hope you will be a part fun and exciting family events.

Our Community Spirit will make Snohomish shine!
The Grinch has been a cagey feller these last few years. To help out in chasing down the elusive Grinch we have brought in a Grinch catching specialist, The Snohomish Running Company. The Historic Downtown Snohomish Association is partnering with the Snohomish Running Company to help ensure the funniest, safest and most enjoyable 5K and 10K run/walk yet.

This year's Chase the Grinch out of Sno-Who-Mish will feature a socially distanced and COVID-19 mitigated live run on December 18th and 19th. Participants will be able to choose their own start times while at the same time enjoying fun on course decorations and cut-outs. For those who aren't quite feeling up to running down a Grinch in a crowd, a virtual run option is available from December 16th through December 24th. Each participant will get a custom buff, finisher medal and bib number with their registration. Custom race shirts are available for an additional $10. Need some warming up before you chase down the Grinch? Take part in the Chase the Grinch Semi-Virtual Beer Run between December 16th and 24th. Beer run will be $10 for participants or $15 for non-participants.

Running route will be an out-and-back starting and finishing along the Centennial Trail across the parking lot from Averill Field in Snohomish. Participants will be required to wear masks prior to the run and immediately following the run. Masks will not be required during the run as long as you are 6 feet away from another participant. Other COVID-19 mitigation plans will also be enacted throughout the event.

How creative ideas and innovation are assisting
Small Businesses in this age of COVID-19

With the COVID-19 pandemic limiting the use of indoor dining room space, the Snohomish City Council passed an ordinance for our restaurants and bars to add more table seating outside. The outdoor seating will occur in Historic Downtown District on Friday, July 31st through November, 2020.

This ordinance will temporarily allow bars and restaurants to add outdoor dining space in the public right-of-way.

Two concerns arose at the City Council meeting, one being the assurance that the City comply with the ADA regulations and assure that those who have disabilities are able to have access into and through those areas.

The other issue is open containers in the public right-of-way – particularly in the parklet model. “Alcohol will be served in this area, as an extension of their current liquor license”, said Wendy Poischbeg, Economic Development and Communications Manager City of Snohomish. She continued to say “The barrier fencing is 42” high as required by law. Each restaurant needs to let the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board know their outdoor plans”

Outdoor Dining through November!
Volunteering and its surprising benefits!

In its efforts to implement the Main Street approach to organizational structure and management, the HDSA has four committees: Organization, Design, Economic Vitality and Promotion. These four committees form the basis for the Main Street Four-Point Approach which is a time-tested, holistic approach to historic downtown revitalization efforts nationwide.

If you are interested in volunteering in any of these Committees, please reach out to Carolyn Powley at powleyc@gmail.com.
WE WANT TO SEE YOU IN HISTORIC DOWNTOWN SNOHOMISH! WE MISS YOU!
We have hand sanitizer, face masks and social distancing to keep us all safe!
The Snohomish Map and Directory!

This map & directory represents hours of computer research, thank you Google, miles of walking and re=walking our streets, to assure that every building, business, service, ATM and city park was accounted for. Our goal is for the Historic Downtown District visitors to find you, shop, visit and share a meal in our town with the hope that they enjoy their time with us and return often. Please let us know of any corrections.

Such an undertaking! Maps are now in the 3 kiosks on 1st Street! And, look for the QR Code on merchants windows. You can use your smartphone camera to grab the QR Code and you can download a .pdf of the map.
