In the News: Spectrum News Interview

See Jason’s interview for Spectrum News with a Carson's Village Peer-to-Peer Villager, Chuck Bird, here.

Our P2P program is in its second year, and we're excited to get started with our Spring 2023 cohort! If you are interested in being a P2P volunteer, you can find more information on the program here.

Advocate Interview

We've taken the time to ask our Advocates some questions so you can meet the people that help our Carson's Village families.

In Michelle's interview, we talk about her impactful work at Carson's Village, what being an Advocate means to her, and some lessons learned about grief. Michelle says, "Grief is a whole lot of love with nowhere to go, and that doesn’t need to be explained by a “stage” or a process, it just is."

Houston ISD Partnership

This past month Jason was in Houston visiting with about 270 wraparound staff members of Houston Independent School District.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by and to Houston ISD Foundation for partnering with us.

Read here for more information on partnering with Carson's Village.

Expanded Spanish Speaking Support

Carson's Village is excited to announce we now have two Spanish-speaking Advocates, increasing our ability to support Spanish-speaking families. Welcome to Areli P. and Cristina H.!

In terms of Spanish-speaking providers in the bereavement field, Areli says, "a lot of what we are seeing is limited culturally competent services and limited Spanish supports in each state. Some examples are the language barrier at funeral homes for Spanish-speaking families, or the gap in understanding certain culturally specific practices on how some Latinx families mourn or celebrate the life of their loved one." Cristina adds, "the lack of translation services and Spanish-language websites" also bars individuals from finding the help they need.

See more information about our team here.

Carson’s Village Monthly Grief Group Support is always accepting new participants! The Group Support Program provides an understanding of grief’s dynamics and explores the myths and what to expect after the passing of a loved one. Our monthly meetings teach strategies to develop healthy coping skills to help you adjust to a life without your loved one. We meet virtually on the second Tuesday of every month at 5 pm PST/7 pm CST/8 pm EST.

You can register here or, for more information, visit the Group Support Webpage here.

Supporting Carson's Village

As a non-profit, Carson's Village appreciates all the support we can get. One of our continuing support options, Amazon Smile, has ended. So, be sure to enroll in other easy ways to support Carson's Village with your everyday purchases, like Kroger Rewards, Facebook Fundraisers, Paypal Giving Fund, and the recently launched Walmart Spark Good Round Up.

New Newsletter Series Coming Soon

Carson's Village is launching a new newsletter series focusing on different aspects of grief, which will be released quarterly.

Keep an eye out for our first installment, Children and Grief, coming out next month!

Walmart recently launched Walmart Spark Good Round Up where customers can round up their purchases to the nearest dollar and donate the change to their favorite charity. We would love for you to choose us as your charity to receive these donations every time you shop on Walmart.com. Go here to learn more.
