Eric Treece is a longtime volunteer who serves as a Coconino County Fair Superintendent for the Coconino County Parks and Recreation Department and coordinates the fair livestock shows. With the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Coconino County Fair went virtual, but that didn’t stop Eric.

He talked to companies about their virtual platforms, submitted numerous edits to the Fair Book, assisted exhibitors and parents with registration, and attended countless meetings. Eric went to great lengths to ensure the Virtual Livestock Show went off without a hitch, provided commentary during the event.

Parks & Recreation staff installed a steel fence earlier this month that provides U.S. Forest Service access on Buffalo Trail in Kachina Village. The previous wooden fence was approximately 20 years old and needed replacement.

Staff kept the original width of the trail to continue to provide Forest Service vehicle access; in the advent of a fire they can move the boulders. The boulders also provide dog walkers room to pass. Several residents expressed their appreciation of the finished product and we're glad to see people getting out and enjoying nature.

Flagline Trails is the contractor working on the reroutes and maintenance for the Soldiers and Bridge Trails at Fort Tuthill County Park. The crew recently finished all the reroutes on the Soldiers Trail, helping to make the trail more sustainable and enjoyable for years to come. They also completed additional lines on the Bridge Trail and integrated a new connection to the Flagstaff Loop Trail from the Soldiers Trail.

Up next, Parks & Recreation staff are working on an updated trail map to show the new trail alignment and new Bridge Trail additions. This project is paid for in part by a Recreational Trails Program grant administered by the Arizona State Parks Board.

Coconino County is seeking comments by Nov. 30 on the draft Fort Tuthill County Park Sustainable Water Management Plan. This draft plan provides a model and foundational tool for strategic water planning and coordination throughout Coconino County. The draft plan includes specific goals and outcomes for water use and management at Fort Tuthill County Park, additionally it provides recommendations to support further reductions of water consumption outside of the County’s park, including other County facilities.
