Where Does the Summer Go?
This summer was busy for SC2C. We coordinated the afternoon enrichment portion of Stamford Public Schools’ Olympian Summer Scholars program, with the help of 11 community providers. Although there were glitches at the beginning, over 1,300 children participated in programming ranging from the arts, to sports, and coding--all activities that they may not have typically been able to attend. A huge thank you to all the enrichment providers who participated.
Our Bridge to College Program completed its third successful summer, with 111 recent graduates of high schools in Stamford participating. We wish them the best as they take their first steps toward a successful future in higher education!
As part of the Stamford Summer Literacy Initiative, three SC2C early grade literacy coaches worked with Stamford Boys and Girls Club, Stamford YMCA, and Family Centers to incorporate more literacy activities into the campers' daily activities. You can see an adorable camper engaged in a literacy activity above.
Please help us get the word out to Stamford families about two important programs: UniteCT can help families who experienced financial difficulties due to COVID with rental and utility assistance; the new Child Tax Credit can put money into the pockets of families that really need it right now. Information about both appear below.
As election season approaches, it's important to stay informed about local candidates and issues. Tonight, a Democratic Mayoral & Westside Board of Reps Forum is being held from 7:30 to 9 pm, sponsored by the Concerned Clergy Coalition. It will be streamed live on Facebook at facebook.com/faithtabct
Remember that the most up-to-date information about what's going on with SC2C and our community partners can be found by liking us on Facebook, and following us on Instagram and Twitter.
Best wishes for a good start to the new school year,
Bridget Fox

Help the Parents You Work With Get the Child Tax Credit
As part of pandemic emergency funding, Congress increased the Child Tax Credit this year. Parents are eligible to receive $3,600 for each child below age six and $3,000 for each older child. Those who pay taxes should already be receiving the credit. Those who don't pay taxes--often because they earn too little or don't have social security numbers--can complete a simple application to receive the credit. It is available in multiple languages.
One-hour webinars on the dates below provide information on the Child Tax Credit and how you can help the parents you work with enroll for the credit. You only need to attend one webinar.

This year it will be offered in the form of a virtual walk/run with a team and a course of your choice. The event is inspired by the life and memory of Marcus Dixon McInerney, a Stamford High School graduate.
Gather a team and assign a Team Leader to participate on your own time. Have fun and spend time with your friends, family, or colleagues while supporting a great cause. Run a pre-charted course throughout the City of Stamford (or create your own). Registration is FREE.
